What do you guys that have a G1S think about the portability of it. Can it be carried around in a messenger bag to and from classes. I love the look and specs of the G1S but am just questioning how much it can be carried around. Let me know, thanks.

Portability is fine for me. No problem to carry it around from classes to classes I guess ... but it also depends if you have any other heavy books in your bag ...

G1S is about 7 lbs so with the bag Asus provided it should ok to carry around in the campus.

No it's only around 6...definitely not 7 pounds. It's actually surprisingly easy to use on a desk in a normal class situation...however, I'd rather use a smaller laptop at 13.3" like the XPS m1330 since then you can even use it on your lap and stuff...

It's 6.8, plus the power adapter, makes it over 7.

It's easily portable, I just never carry it anywhere.

huh...when I pick up my friends Macbook Pro it weights to me like twice as heavy lol.... I guess 7 pounds really isn't that heavy.

It's advertised as 6.8 but it's rather like 7 lbs. and I wouldn't count it very portable, it's large and heavy for a 15.4" notebook, and the battery life is mediocre, which certainly doesn't help portability...

yeah, so what's the life battery on average? i'm asking 'cause i've heard of varying times - from 1hr 20min to 3hrs... :D if it's the first value really, and there's no extended life battery, there would make the asus not that portable :D

ASUS is definitely not portable. A Dell XPS M1530 is way better in terms of portability and battery life.

The g1s is fine carrying it from class to class. Using it on a small desk during lecture is another thing though. I usually just set it on my lap. Besides the heat build up, the G1s is fine in terms of portability.

15" is borderline of portability. it's certainly portable, but in the ends it's just not worth it. hopefully this industry will work towards making 14" the new consumer standard as notebook components become thinner and lighter.

also the only 15" that's worth carrying around IMO is the macbook pro.

G1S is kind of bulky and heavy even for a 15.4, add on top of that the poor batt life of crt ASUS notebooks (not really 1:30 though as someone said, I think more like 2:30) so if the OP's main concern is portability, then I suggests he looks at something other than the G1.
