Hey guys, i just got my new Asus G1-S laptop and its a very nice machine indeed. however i have been trying for 5 hours and it simply wont connect to my wireless broadband router.

I followed all the instructions carefully so i am sure there is nothing stupidly obvious that i have missed. I spent 90 mins online with my ISP help center and they use remote assistance to have a good look round my machine and they are saying its most likely a problem with the wireless network card itself :S

has anyone else had a similar problem or can anyone suggest something to try please?

    Thanks a lot

Could you please give us more information? So far all you've said is "I can't connect to my wireless network," which really says nothing.

OS, card model, driver versions, router brand, router firmware, operating conditions, troubleshooting you did thus far, etc.

I had the same problem with my V-X1. I contacted them and they are paying for it to be replaced. Asus has great service.

If it is the wireless card there are three things I would do:

    1) Make sure you are connecting via windows, not some third-party software even if it is the software that came with the wireless card.

    2) Update the drivers from support.asus.com

    3) Call your reseller and ask for an RMA for the wireless card.

    Hope that helps!

There are also bugs in some models and BIOSes that prevent one from connecting to wireless unless the bluetooth is enabled. Who knows it might be your case (happened with my V6 and some older BIOS).

OK thanks for the replies guys. I have a brand new Asus G1S A-1 laptop and the wireless adaptor is a Intel PRO/Wireless 4965 802.11 a/b/g/n and i have the latest driver from asus website for it. I am using a BT Voyager 2500V wireless router which has the most up to date firmware installed. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and the support guy from my ISP used remote assistance to go through the settings on my PC and although device manager says that my wireless card is working properly it simply will not detect the wireless router sitting 2 feet away, He knew exactly what he was doing from a setting it up through windows point of view so i am feeling that its not a windows setting realted problem. The is no interference problems from other devices and the router is well within range.

I tired to detect new netwroks using the Network and Sharing facility from the control panel but nothing came up. So i selected "Add wireless network manually" i added the address of my router correctly in line with the instructions from my ISP support people, i set it to have WEP security and entered the correct pass key from bottom of the router. I can see the router i added manually from the "manage wireless networks" part of the Networks & sharing section, but when it comes to connecting to it from the connect ot networks section it says it cannot detect any networks.

One thing i have noticed is that on the front of my laptop there are 4 indicator LEDs, the one on the right denotes that wireless/bluetooth is active, this light just flashes about every 5 seconds when i have selected either wireless or bluetooth from the Asus Wireless Console 2 program, i was wondering if anyone knew if this light should be on all the time when wireless/bluetooth is activated? or is it flashing on and off normal?

I cant seem to find a bios update on the asus website so if anyone has any ideas it'd be great thanks. If there is any more info you need please ask :)

    Thanks again

Flashing is not normal as far as I can tell.

Try disabling the Wireless Console 2, perhaps that program is buggy and is turning the wireless on and off.

I have a G1S and I am able to connect to my wireless. The network light in front of the laptop is flashing so I think that is normal.

Are you able to connect to or see any wireless networks at all?

Have you been able to connect other laptops to your router?

Wow a $250 router is it like UberN 10 mile range? It must be an 802.11n router, so in that case, enjoy faster speeds than most of us do.
