What's the prognosis for doing cosmetic body repairs on Asus laptops? A small patch of the dark grey outer finish of my M6n has worn off, about 1.5" to the right of the touchpad, leaving an ugly scar where the bodywork plastic shows through.

What would be the best way to fix this? Can the top panel be replaced without getting a new laptop? Failing that, has anyone happened on some half-decent touchup paint for this model?

My M6n has served me very well, :asus: but the finish is very fragile. :(

Well you can just replace the chassis part........ we do job like this a lot. Basically, to replace everything you see on the outside of your system, including the keyboard, touchpad, hinges, all the case parts....... basically about $400 will get you the parts, labor, a through screen washing and shipping back to you. For you, that means from what you can see.... you've got a whole new computer........ it also basically brings the value of your computer up about $400 or more as well... so it's a wash if you want to sell it or give it to someone as a gift.

I'm not sure how bad yours is at this point, but this is often the choice of those who break the case corners by dropping it or something else.... after a year - year and half.... it's quite the change.

Interesting. Approximately speaking, what's the going rate just to replace the plastic panel that goes around the keyboard and touchpad? I'd rather not replace the rest of the chassis and exposed controls as everything else on my system is in good shape.

well, labor wise you're looking at about the same because that top panel is basically the last to come off.... usually for that piece $50-60(for the part itself)........ plus touchpad, keyboard, labor
