I have the Asus-F5VL. It's about a year old. It came with the Intel-T5450 processor. (see specs below) I'm thinking about upgrading the CPU before a faster one is no longer available. I would like a CPU that runs at 2.0-Ghz or preferably faster. I'm wondering what my options are. Do I have to stick with the 5000-series? Can the new one have a different core stepping? Can the bus speed be increased on the motherboard or is it fixed at 667-Mhz? I'd appreciate any and all advice on this subject.

    Thanks

Would the T9300 be a drop in replacement for the T5450?

    Thanks

I didn't think that Penryn chips were necessarily drop in for the Merom cpus (I could be incorrect about that) but at the very least I believe you'd need a BIOS update even if it was, and there would have to be one for the F5 series(check at Asus).
