The difference probably comes from the graphics card (Go7700 is comparable to the x1700, which is probably 1/4 or 1/2 generation ahead of x1600 in the F3Ja) + WXGA+ (1440x900) res in the A8Js (not sure if it's only WXGA in your country, the NA version has WXGA+)....

Darrick is correct with his comment. However Blow your asking for 2 things a Desktop replacement and a portable laptop for university with capabilities of gaming.

I have ran a 3DMark06 benchmark on the A8js Go 7700 and it gets anywhere from 2400-2600. Which is good, infact this is the best for a 14"/15.4" notebooks. Whereas the X1600 will get roughly 2000 marks in 3DMark06.

So yes right now the A8js is the better performer than the F3ja, plus the A8js has more ram a bigger hard drive. Both laptops have bluetooth in your country which is good since North American A8js don't have bluetooth, unless you add it on.

Also what country do you live in and which laptop cost more? My guess is that the A8js cost more than the F3Ja by 200 Euros and yes i think it is worth it.

Next thing to consider is the resolution as Darrick mentioned, if the A8js has a WXGA+ screen then you'll have more real estate than most 14" laptops, and when you compare it to a 15.4" with a WXGA screen you'll roughly have the same amount of real estate.

The last thing to consider is portability and batterylife, on average both models should get 2.5 hours and ofcourse the A8js is more portable than the F4ja.

So my vote goes to the A8js because of the above facts mentioned and if it has a WXGA+ screen. But even if it doesn't have the WXGA+ screen the A8js also has more performance so once again the A8js comes out on top.

    Thank for reply!
Im live in italy, here A8Js has a WXGA+ screen, im think the font size ecc ecc is very small whit this resolution on a 14' or not? The work space is more in WXGA on 15,4' or in WXGA+ on 14'?
My actual monitor of my desktop is an old 17' and im using it in 1152x864, so i dont know hight resolution works!

The expansive nootebook is A8Js, its cost 1700€, F3Ja cost about 1500€

I have read that geforce 7700 in A8Js have a DDR2 memory, and not DDR3, instead x1600 have more fast memory(i think DDR3) is true?
But if u say A8js score whit 3dmark 3005-2006 is more than f3ja i think this is wrong..

Another thing, a8js have dissipation at right, where there is mouse, so this can do some effect? It is confortable anyway?

Milestone said that the 3dMark06 for A8Js is about 2400 - 2600, (and with OC it can get up to 2900 according to some ppl who've done it).... the x1600 is probably half a step generation behind, hence it gets lower marks, even with GDDR3 (yes, the GeForce ones use DDR2). You'd have to compare x1700 to Go7700 to get a bit more even comparison.

I've been using an external mouse on my A8Jm (same chasis as the A8Js), with no problems. The vent is at the rear right, and I usually use the mouse a bit further nearer the front and away from the vent... in any case, never felt uncomfortable with my external mouse .

hehe blow you musta misread my 3Dmark Comparison its ok i will explain it again.

Go 7700 will get roughyl 2400-2600 Points in 3DMark06
X1600 will get roughly 2000 Points in 3DMark06

Meaning the GO 7700 is faster despite the ram. So don't worry about the speed of the ram, the overall specs and Go 7700 is superior (better) than the F3Ja and only costing 200 Euros more, that's a good price! :D

To tell whether the 15.4" at 1280x768 vs 14" at 1440x900 is a tough comparison on which gives more real estate. I personaly like the higher resolution since things look more sharper and crisps than lower resolution.

If possible take your 17" monitor and bump up the resolution and see how well you cope with higher resolutions.

I personaly have a 17" CRT runnning at 12x10 and i can do 16x12 which looks amazing, and so did the A8js with 14x9.

I hope this clarifies everything, if not just keep asking we'll be here to answer :D

Are you so sure ?
Usually 15,4" WXGA is 1280x800. I can say with certainty that my F3Jc's screen res is 1280x800. Some few 14" WXGA screens are 1280x768, but neither A8Js or any F3J model.

Hi everyone. I just found a thread I was looking for. :) I have narrowed my choices down to A8Js and F3Ja but now I'm puzzled which one I should buy.

What if you had an option to buy F3Ja with WSXGA+? Does anyone have F3Ja with WSXGA+ screen? As far as I know it uses same chassis as Z96J but does it use the same screen?

The price is pretty much the same, (1600€) if I buy F3Ja from Finland or order A8Js from Germany.

    Specs:
    A8Js
    Core 2 Duo T7200 120GB 2x1024 nVidia Go7700
    14" WXGA+
    6 Cells 4800mAH Battery

    F3Ja
    Core 2 Duo T5600 120GB 1x1024 Ati X1600
    15,4" WSXGA+
    9 Cells 7200mAh Battery

Smaller size and nvidia really interests me but I'm not sure if WXGA+ is enough. My previous notebook was A6Ja and I found 1280x800 to be inadequate.

How about T7200 vs T5600? Would I notice the difference? Clock speed is not that different but cache 4MB vs. 2MB?

What kind of battery life could I expect from F3Ja?

    my overclocked 3dark 06 score is 3096.

this is almost 1000 points higher than the highest score Ive seen for the x1600 overclocked which is 2200.

They are barely comparable... the 7700 on the 3d 06 score is close to the 68000 go

We have the F3Jv variant for sale in the Asia Pacific market... with WSXGA+ screen, C2D T7200 CPU and nVidia go7600 GPU. Not sure if it's available in Europe though.

For most applications you'd never notice the difference. The extra L2 cache definitely makes itself felt on CPU intensive tasks like audio/video encoding however.

Have you seen the screen? Any comments about it would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, it seems that nVidia go7600 and T7200 are not available here.

Haven't seen one firsthand as yet, Lock. They've only just come onto the market here, so most local retailers have only gotten there stock in the last week or two.

Besides, I'm holding out for the A8Js... ;)

I have the F3Jm, c2d T7200 w/ WSXGA+ screen res 1680x1050 dpi. I'm absolutely loving it. It's glossy, so highly reflective in lit areas but its no problem for me. No dead pixels and no backlight bleeding whatsoever..for me anyways.

Thanks for the comments. Have you checked what panel does it have? It would be interesting to see the specs.

Is your battery 6 or 9 cells? What kind of battery life does it have? At the moment it looks like F3Ja is going to be my choice. So much screen real estate compared to my old A6Ja. :D
