So I have a friends Eee PC 1201N notebook in my possession. Apparently it magically stopped working about 3 months ago just as her warranty expired.

Long story short, the thing will not power up. The original power supply was faulty, which was simple enough for me to verify. I have since then purchased a replacement power supply.

However, it still will not power up.

She mentioned she used to hear a crackling noise when plugging in her laptop. After doing my research on common issues the model seems to have, I have been led to believe that the actual power jack itself is bad. I have training and experience with soldering, but only a basic knowledge and understanding of components. While I am hesitant to try, I am considering purchasing a jack (rather cheap) and giving it a go.

Any suggestions or thoughts before I do anything?

I would recommend sending it to Asus for repair. If the power jack is indeed the issue, it's best to let a professional handle the repair.
