    Hello all :)
This is my first post at this forum. I have been visiting it very often for the past month, since I am about to purchase a laptop. Now onto my question.
I recently saw the laptop of my preference in a store, they only have that one left. But it is a display model so its out of the box and is on display in the glass case. So is it really worth buying it from there? Thank you

I don't see anything wrong... if it was in a case and not out to be played with I would say it is fine.... I wouldn't go for it if it was out so people could play with it.

What type of store is it? Was it really busy?

I'd look for keyboard wear and tear and LCD, since those two will get 'touched' the most. Try and negotiate a good chunk off the price, I'd say 20% is reasonable since its not brand new and in box, and many customers have used it.

The keyboard and mouse (buttons) might be pretty banged up.

As for the last two replies, I'm pretty sure the laptop is kept in the glass case so there is no worry of silly customers playing around with it. The only thing I'm worried is the dust and the intensity of the display lightblub shining on it.

Ask them how long it's been there as well. Battery life depreciates over time, no matter what =)

Maybe they didn't leave the battery in there. A lot of the notebooks I see in stores have the battery taken out and the notebooks are connected to AC. In any case, you can always bargain for a brand new battery in compensation. Need to keep in mind, however, the G1S is a very popular model and thus, if you don't want the deal, someone else may settle for less.

If it's in a glass case and hasn't been touched by a lot of people, I'd say go ahead and buy it. The computer has been idle most of the time so there isn't much wear on anything.

You could also tell them to clean the dust from it if you are to buy it, but that has a flipside -- they will open it up and you don't know how experienced they are with notebooks, depends on the store, it's always preferable to open the notebook up as few times as possible. :)

You could go along with a copy of RMClock to check battery wear and ensure the battery is good enough (if it has been in the computer), but I'm not sure you'll have the time (if it's anything like XP, on the first boot Vista will take a lot of time to finalize settings etc).

Do try to get a price reduction as well.
