Hi, hopefully someone can help me with a problem. I have the Asus G2s-B1 notebook, and it has the Nvidia 8600 gt 256 video card
The problem I am having is that my computer is not activating directx 10.
When I play Bioshock, I have the directx 10 option enabled, but the flashing lights on my laptop never go on (they are supposed to flash when gaming in directx 10). Even worse, when I start Hellgate London in directx 10 mode, the intro movies play so slowly and with such glitchy sound that it took 5 mins for the first movie to complete (it is only a 4 or 5 second clip). But the thing is, I can play Hellgate London just fine if I play in Directx 9 mode.
Now I am certain that I have some sort of problem with my directx 10, I have tried updating my directx 10 version, but it does nothing. my directdiag.exe shows that I am using directx 10, so I have no idea what the conflict is. Once I did accidently install directx 9c, but I just reinstalled directx10, so I dunno if that may have cause conflicts. I am using Nvidia forceware drivers 169.01. Sorry for the long post but I am at my wits end, so any and all help will be GREATLY appreciated, thanks.

As far as I know, flashy lights are for DX9 or atleast thats what it said the last time I read the description of the G1 and G2. You can always try updating your video card drivers to newer ones from Laptopvideo2go.com and see if that makes DX10 play friendlier with you flashy lights. I'm frankly surprised to see someone that actually kept em on. DX10 is a pain in the...think of it as Ultra/Ultimate High, thus we have midrange video cards, 8600M GT. Lower you res and settings for DX10, something I'm still playing with in LOTR Online since they added DX10.

I don't have a G1 or G2, so those are mostly shots in the dark.

Additionaly, from what I herd of HG:L's dx10 from a friend of mine that tried it, its pretty borked up-regardless of hardware... much less on hardware that could barely touch it anyway...

Thanks for the replies, but the thing is, I can't even get into Hellgate London with directx 10. I'm not worried about not being able to run it, I'd just like my computer to realize that I have directx 10 and to use it.

If you're running Vista, all you have is dx10, which can emulate dx9. There's no way to "lose" dx10, it comes with Vista.

well that kind of helps, just wish I could figure out why no game lets me play in directx 10. 8600 gt is a directx 10 card right?

    Firstly,

Second... ummm, last I herd vista came with both DX10 and DX9 installed sort of, not dx10 emulating dx9 but thats a minor detail... and it has been a while.

Regardless of whatever M$ has done with vista, in HG:L's case, DX10 mode is a bit... sparaticly functional at the moment. Hence running it in DX9 mode is preferible. I'd not be shocked to hear simular from other games...
