I feel very nervous about ordering the W3J without handling one in a store first. I keep hearing how nice the keyboard is, but I read it's 'silent' and 'soft.'

Does this translate to mushy keys, a la the Macbook Pro? One reason I find the Apple laptop keys to be mushy is that each key has a wobble if you run your fingertip around the edge of a key, you can see the key 'tilt.' Does the Asus do that, too?

Or is the Asus keyboard solid like the Thinkpad keys? I'd appreciate if someone can articulate to me the exact feel of the Asus W3V / W3J keys.

The asus keys are very nice. Not mushy at all dont worry about that. They arent as good as a thinkpad. But they are towards that end of quality not like HP or compaq, or sony kinda mushy.

i love the keyboard. Just right in my opinion. perfect amount of resistance per stroke, and perfect stroke lenght.

Great keyboard! But it's hard to get used with the Fn-key.

Would I be able to change the fn and ctrl keys around? Is there someway to do this in XP? I like having the ctrl on the outside.
    thanks

I think there is some 3rd party key mapping software. Let me see if i can find it.

Definitely not mushy at all...let me try and describe what I'm feeling as I write this...

The keys take just the right amount of pressure IMO - if I lightly tap on the key, I don't get it to depress...only when I do a real keystroke does it hit. At the bottom of the keystroke, it feels almost cushioned - not soft, not empty. No keyboard flex to speak of.

The keys feel wide and comfortable - I actually think the font on the keys is kick ass...much nicer than my Dell work computer (the text even feels wide on them).

The only quirk I've found is that I sometimes get under the corner of a key if I'm really humming on the keyboard. Really it's because I'm trying to slide my fingers over the keys rather than do a true keystroke.

I don't own one yet, but I have played around with one... My one and only complaint about the keyboard are the small arrow keys. Asus could have made the keyboard slightly bigger and made those keys a bit bigger. I don't really use the arrow keys that much though. Only use them for some racing games like NFS. Sometimes in like word docs too.

When you say mushy I think of wet bread. When I use the W3J keyboard I think of the feeling when I bite into a crisp cucumber.
