hello guys. yesterday i bought a new ASUS m50vc notbook. i love everything about this notebook. a very minor thing is bugging me. i just need to check if it is normal or not.

when i am on ac power and press the notebook power button, the notebook instantly comes to life. but when i am on battery and then press the power button, it takes a 2-3 second delay before the power button LEDs and others to start..

is this behavoiur normal or is it faulty...any kind of suggestion will be highly appreciated..thank you

Running your notebook on battery causes your CPU to run at a lower clock frequency (helps preserve battery life). It would be normal if you notice your system running a tad slower.

it is not related to speed. what i am saying is that when i press the power button on my notebook when on batteries, it takes about 3-4 seconds before any LEDs goes on.. but when on AC source it immediately comes to life.

I've just noticed that my HPdv3500 does the same thing - LEDs come right on if it's plugged in but there is a 2-3 second delay if I'm booting on batteries only. Wondering if you found out anything regarding this?

    Thanks!

starting up the system takes the most power (spinning up hdd/fan, powering backlight, full-speed POST/memory check etc.), so i'm guessing it's just a battery safety feature. that's my guess.

That's partly what I think as well, and I'm fine if it's normal behavior and not a warning sign of something bad - it would just be nice to know for sure. Does your laptop exhibit similar behavior?

Also bothers me that I can actually find very little about on the internet.

It may very well be that it's been this way since I bought it and I just failed to notice because

    1. I run it on AC if I can (though I don't leave it plugged in when I'm not using it), and

    2. I almost never shut it down, I always just sleep it.

Any more info appreciated - thanks!

i had the same thing on my old g50 (and maybe my RMAd g51, used it on batteries maybe twice total). ran the old one close to 20/7 for well over a year unplugging only when taking it to class, never had a problem.

Just as an update for anyone who may be having this problem - HP tells me this is a hardware issue between the motherboard and the power jack, and there should not be a delay between pushing the power button and the LEDs coming on and the HD starting to spin/boot when booting with battery only. I don't completely understand this as the power cord is not part of the equation, but whatever.

Thankfully for me I'm under warranty and just have to send it in.

what are you people on? haha
I Also have the Asus M50vm and its completely normal. I dont understand why its a problem , because it takes like 5 seconds more compared to AC mode.

Could it be because the notebook needs some time to utilize energy needed to boot up from the battery? And if you are using the transformator you already have given the notebook energy before pushing the power button?
Either way its nothing wrong or special with this notebook lol
