So I just recently bought a V6VA, everything is perfect except for the battery. The battery that came with the system could not hold a charge at all so I called Asus up and they did a cross ship where they sent me the new battery first. Now the second one charged up to 100% but only on the first time. Second time it only charged up to 42%, then 27% and now 3%. Weird thing is from 3% sometimes it jumps up to 100% on NHC. So was there a bad batch of batteries or something when this system was released?

Asus customer service has been decent, polite and with overnight shipping but it just sucks that I have to pay to ship the battery back to them again.. and I dont even know if the next one will work

Well, there are battery issues with the V6, and many other Asus series, but not like you are describing. Sounds like you have a faulty AC adapter, or a faulty motherboard (chances of 2 bad batteries?). I would have them fix one of those, and try again. For more info on the usual V6 battery issues, see the Asus Battery Wear link in my Sig.

Does your V6 operate normally on AC power? Try removing the battery while the notebook is on AC power. If you notice any performance problems it may well be a faulty AC adapter.

Thanks for the help guys. Exactly what I was thinking, what are the chances of two faulty batteries. Ive had the laptop connected to the AC for three days straight and so far I havent had any problems. So I doubt its the adapter.. also the battery charged up full the first time I plugged it in so I guess that rules out the motherboard..?

Think Im gonna try the battery calibration tool in bios and see what happens. Btw, just curious whats ATK0100 ACPI UTILITY for?

JackBauer - I removed the battery while still connected to AC, nothing happened. Notebook still working as normal.

Im glad someone else has this exact same problem. I just received my V6Va from Newegg this last Friday and I had the exact same problem. It wouldn't hold a charge at all.

I ended up calling asus and they had me keep it on the charger for 24 hours and if it still didn't work they would send me a new one. So I let it charge for 24 hours and no go, so I called them back and they gave me an RMA # so once I send the it in they will send me a new one. I hope the one I receive doesn't have this same problem. I've also been operating the laptop with just the AC adapter and its been working great.

I also have to say that although I miss my Z70Va, this is a sexy and damn nice machine!

Definitely! The IPS screen is just spec(friggin)tacular :D Easily the best display Ive seen. Now if only this battery problem can be fixed. Btw my V6VA is also from Newegg.

Hmmm... I find it a bit troubling that both of your notebooks are having the same problem and were from NewEgg. I hope that great price wasn't a way of clearing out some faulty notebooks. Keep us posted on the status of this issue. I hope Asus solves your battery problems.

You're right... the V6Va is one hot-lookin' lappy!

    Coincedence?

I too recently bought a Asus V6VA from NewEgg (march 28, 2007). And my battery problems sound exactly like what benlg described (initially appeared to be charging, left it plugged in and powered off since it was charging a bit slowly, got up to 70% charged or so, then seemed to have discharged itself, and wouldn't charge up at ALL).

After farting around with it, and trying to get assistance online from Asus, without luck, NewEgg gave me an RMA. After NewEgg had it in their possession for a whole week, they finally got back to me (this morning), saying that they couldn't replace it, as it was out of stock or discontinued, so they are going to credit my credit-card.

Now I'm back to looking for a laptop all over again... :-(

[Edit: the following sentence was in error; I later found out that I simply had a dead battery; ASUS replaced it with a good one, which works perfectly fine.]
I just got a V6Va from Newegg (my second, and I still have the other one), and it has the battery problem too.

[Edit: the following was my fault, something I was doing wrong, but the computer did come with one of its RAM sticks defective.]
My new V6Va also has the problem that it does not recognize the presence of my LAN cable.

My other V6Va, which I got from Newegg last September, has had no problems, and it is my dream computer!

I decided to keep the V6VA since the laptop is pretty nice except for the battery. Still cant believe Newegg sold so many defective units, makes me wonder if they are open box items. Their return policy on laptops is such a hassle too. Basically if anything goes wrong they try to avoid responsibility and tell you to send it back to the manufacturer. Also the rep acted like he was doing me a favor to exchange the laptop within 30 days, which they are supposed to do. Took me three emails complaining but they finally gave me a $75 discount because of the defective battery. At least one good thing came out of it, now I know Asus customer service is pretty good. The Asus rep was really helpful and efficient in helping me fix the problem. Even though the first battery I received didnt work, she was cool about it and shipped the second one without hesitation or headaches. Hopefully itll work this time around.

Finally, received new battery from Asus and its working fine now (fingers crossed). Charged and discharged 5 times and Im still getting 100% charge. Guess I really was just unlucky and caught two lemons  Two thumbs up for Asus customer service though - very polite, efficient and used overnight shipping.

    congratulations!

Guess i'm lucky that battery isn't an issue for me..whereas it's the screen.
The frame rate for watching movies makings any screen panning painful to watch!

Bah.. worked for a few days and same thing happened again. Charged only to 80%, 73%, 56% and now only to 3%. Battery wear is a whopping 20% already after about a week! Back to calling Asus..
