I started a thread a few days ago about my asus starting to shutdown when I switched to AC power. Now it was seemingly gone dead. Whenever I try to turn it on the led comes on and the fan starts but it immediately turns off again. What is wrong. Does anyone know anything I can try to do? I have a final exam to take tomorrow and the exam software is on that laptop. I really need some help fast and asus notebook support has closed for the night. If anyone can help me at all I would really appreciate it.

My guess would be that the hardware is failing some initial self tests. Checking the RAM modules is relatively easy if you have two - remove one then check if you can start on the other. Also just remove and replace the RAM modules (suitable anti-static precautions recommended). Another long shot would be to check of the CPU heat sink is firmly seated.

The quickest way to get at anything on the HDD is to get an external USB HDD casing and put the HDD in there. You will be able to get at you files but not run the programs installed on your W3.
