I just got a asus fs3v-a1 and was wondering, is there a way i can make the DVD player region free? I know on my regualr DVD player, i can use my remote to hack it but i don't know about notebooks. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

DVD43 has been suggested in the past. Try a search ;)

Incidentally, VLC plays R3 Korean import DVDs for me, so maybe that's worth a go. An awesome media player anyway

The best resource for DVD region issues is rpc1.org.

Use Device Manager to identify your optical drive model number. Google will then give you the manufacturer. Then go to rpc1 and find out your options.

If you have only got a few DVDs with the wrong region, software such as DVD Shrink can strip out the region coding while making a backup.

I have been using this for over 3 years:

    http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm

No messing around/waiting for firmware update and Lifetime free upgrade. my current laptop is like the fouth or fifth laptop I had this on (I go thru laptops every 8-12 months) plus my varies desktop (they last a bit longer). Well worth every penny.

I also highly recommend DVDIdle's DVD Region Free. It flat out works and like Wiz33 says, no messing with the firmware required.
