I purchased an ASUS F8VA-B1 a at the end of August and everything was alright at first but about 2 weeks later I started experiencing some problems...the worst being that the unit shuts down on me for no reason (while working in documents or surfing) and sometimes as soon as I power it up it shuts down within 5 seconds. I sent it out for repair and when I received it back it started doing the same thing again. I just called ASUS and asked that they replace the unit. I faxed them the invoice a few mins ago....my question is:

What's the best way for me to approach this issue?

Does anyone know what their policy on replacing units is...(within 30 days)?

If they say no we are just going to repair the unit should I argue?

Any thoughts or ideas would help...

    Thanks.

Try resetting the RAM modules in your notebook. Many times, it's the hardware not seated corrected or cables not connected securely that can cause random shutdowns.

What exactly did Asus replace on your notebook?

If you're located in the US, then I would suggest sending it back in after checking the ram modules and even the connectors between your keyboard and mobo.
If I remember correctly, replacement units can be given, but probably after the 2nd or 3rd attempt of repairing the unit.

They changed the fan and the optical drive the first time. I just spoke with customer service and after originally saying "NO" they said that they were going to issue me a RMA# for a DOA but first they have to replicate the problem. With my luck the computer will run perfectly well with them lol

I've sent my laptop in once (have two M50SV-A1s) and they fix a broken LCD and a jammed DVD drive. Both accidental. Well I guess there was more damage than that (video errors exist now).

I'm sure they will make her all better now. Sucky thing is that I had already sold it and now will be refunding the guy.

    Follow up:

So I sent my computer to ASUS for the above mentioned problems and they called me back saying that they can't find a problem with my notebook. Now I'll admit that the shutdown problem is intermittent...but it does happen. It shutdown on me 4 times over the weekend. The technician told me that the problem only has to happen once and then he'll replace the computer. Any suggestions on what I should do? Since I'm under 30 days can I ask them to reimburse me (but I'd prefer a new notebook).

Unfortunately, they aren't likely to replace or refund a notebook for a problem that can't be replicated by the techs, as issuing replacements for equipment simply based on user claims would open the floodgates for fraud... I'm not saying your problem isn't occurring, just pointing out how Asus is going to interpret their policy and require documentation or witnessing of the problem by their repair staff prior to replacement/repair.

You could ask them how they would want you to document or demonstrate the problem occurring so they might then consider replacement going forward.

Did you talk to the resellers who you buy from?

Or you buy directly from Asus.

The best thing other than ASUS replacing your laptop is to request a motherboard replacement. It would most likely solve the problem.
