Im I crazy to want to laptops?

I looking at the Asus N10 and the M50. I have a z71v right now that is old and am looking to replace it. Im not a heavy gamer so this but like to play a few games so the m50 looks nice for me. I just do not like desktops anymore. I have a dell server in my room now. Thats about the only desktop I want. I know the m50 is portable but I dont want to take it all the time so I also looking to get the n10. I like the N10 as it has a vid card so I can still watch some 720p videos and maybe play a few games on it when im on the road.

What do you all think. Im I crazy?

sell the old one, buy a new one. no need for two unless it's for your job.

Not at all, both compliment each other well. One is a powerful desktop replacement, which the other is a nice portable, secondary laptop to take around where with the M50 it would be inconvenient because of its size and weight.

Well my old one is not worth anything. Im going to give that one to my parents to use. I just became a laptop fan. I got rid of my desktop when i got my laptop. I was looking at building a new one but I did not like all the space it would take up and love just using a laptop as my main pc.

I think having two notebooks is great.

I have a G2S desktop replacement and a Sony SZ770 as my travel notebook.

    2 notebooks is ideal.

One with the whole deal like the gateway i have now, 2 hds 256 bit gpu. Big screen.

One only for email and wifi spots. Downloading as well and file sharing.

Cell phones are approaching the email and instant messaging level

    I currently have THREE laptops--

An HP nw8240 running a Ubuntu/Fedora9 dual boot
A macbook that is basically functioning as a glorified appleTV
and my Asus F8V that is my workhorse system right now.

So by all means have two! I'm considering an Inspiron Mini9 to complete the set for vacations and web browsing on the couch. However, even I agree that FOUR might be a little much :p

I think in the next week or 2 Im going to order a G50. I have been looking between that and the M50 but if im going to have 2 why not have a nice on at home also.

I have an "old" HP dv6000 right now but i have to give it away next month.

I plan to buy a Sony FW21ZU 16,4" laptop or a Sony AW11 18,4" laptop to use it as a desktop replacement.I still can't decide yet if a 18,4 "notebook" is too much even for a desktop replacement!
The 16,4 little brother can be still considered and used as a portable PC but the 18,4"...hmmm!

Of course i would be mad to take this monster out of home so i plan to bye a thin and light netbook such as the Asus S101 or the Dell E Slim.
Another option is a top end ultraportable notebook, maybe a Sony TT or Dell E4200.

I would never get 2 laptops. Strongly consider getting a desktop and laptop. What you pay for a mid-range laptop can get you a high end desktop.

if you're gonna get 2 laptops, dont have one of them as a desktop replacement. There should be laws against this kinda stuff.

Why? some people HATE desktops. I hate desktops. You can't fold a desktop and stick it in a drawer when you're done with it. They take up tons of space, draw a lot of power, and are frankly, completely unattractive.

There's a reason there's a whole class called "desktop replacement," namely, that people DON'T WANT desktops. I certainly will never own one again, I don't care how fast they are. It's not about the money, it's about flexibility and convenience. If I need an external monitor, I can plug my laptop into one, and still be able to take any of my computers halfway around the world with me if need be.

I have two laptops (I got one free). If I was paying, I'd currently get a desktop and a netbook, but I got a DTR free through a contest I won, so thats why I'm running two notebooks. I'm giving the smaller Asus W7s to my dad, but buying another small-ish two year old notebook for $500 (better than a netbook for the same price), so I'm still running 2 notebooks.

If you don't like the netbook idea, you could go for a UMPC, which has essentially the same specs in a slate tablet form factor. You can get Samsung Q1 Ultra starting from $550, which is about what the MSI Wind and Asus EEE 1000 cost.

i think having 2 computers (at least) is great. when i move out in a year imma build myself a nice desktop for gaming and get a netbook (or small 12ish " notebook) with a dedicated graphics card for light gaming and stuff on the go.

i personally dont like desktops, they take up alot of space and i hate sitting on a desk, however imma design and build a little desktop cubby to keep in front of my couch. its gonna have a compartment on top that a 24" widescreen monitor will fold down into, a drawer for a keyboard and mouse that i can set on my lap, and a hidden compartment (with vents) that the desktop hides in.
yay coffee table/desk! and i can play from my couch.

I have 2 laptops, a desktop in my room and 2 server pc's in my basement. One is a file server, the other a torrent pc. It's more maintenance, but I don't see a problem with having 2.

Just you might have a hard time deciding which one to play with hehe

I have a few others in the other room that I have been meaning to sell or donate, but have not got around to it yet.

Very neat having 2 laptops once you figure out how to sync documents between the two effectively... walk in with your netbook, and having all your docs available immediately on your other desktop/laptop via a home network is awesome.

I have an Asus M50Vm as well as a desktop. When I was contemplating the M50 the stats for the N10 were unveiled, and I briefly wondered how useful it would be to have the multimedia/gaming notebook (M50), and a more portable notebook (like the N10). Now that I've had the M50 for a couple of weeks I, and traveling around with it I can tell you it is extremely portable. I no longer think a small notebook (like the n10) would be as useful to complement the M50, as I have had no problems transporting it and usin it on the go.

My recommendation would be to get the M50 (or a similar notebook from a weight and stat perspective) and use that for a couple of weeks before you resign yourself to purchasing another notebook.

I have a Desktop and a desktop replacement in my home office. The desktop replacement is for work files, ie phone logs.

I have a desktop replacement on my coffeetable as well as a mid-size (15.4) notebook for the bedroom, and a travel laptop...13.3". I KNOW I am nuts, but I got great deals on these 'puters, and I use them all.

I also have a Macbook which I am considering selling. Barely used. About 9 months old. I just wasn't feeling it. :( Went back to PCs.

    I do the same.

I have the G50V-A1 as my main big unit and the EEE 1000H for my sub unit.

Its not sad to own both since they both can fill different roles, what may be insane is to be like me tho and use them both at the same time every night at work lol. I have my work desktop, my EEE, and the G50V all next to one another.

G50V can play computer games and I use it for my video editing and photoshop, the EEE is my on the go unit for movies/music/emulation and web surfing.

Its not something you need, but if you can budget it, it's quite nice.

The EEE 1000H price drop is what prompted me to dive into getting one, also my wife wanted something like that so I could not bear to get her one and not get me one, so I actually got two EEE's but the other one is considered hers now of course.

I think two laptops might be overkill. Then again I almost had two laptops and 1 desktop.

I'm going to stick with the M50SV-A1 overclocked to 3 ghz running XP permenantely mounted in my truck (removeable if needed of course) and this Gateway Quad Core 3 ghz desktop for home use. My wife has a Gateway FX laptop that I got for cheap.
