I have put up a similar post in the Portable One forum, but decided to put one up here as well, thinking that I probably would get more feedback in the Asus forum.

I'm choosing between the UX (Z33a) & MX (W3V). Am leaning towards MX but the biggest hurdle is its weight.

Can anyone give me a comparison of the pro & cons, i.e.

    1) what I'll be giving up if I choose UX over MX
    2) what I can get from the UX (apart from the lightweight) that the MX can't provide?
    3) is it worth the price if I upgrade the UX to the level of MX?

    Please note:
    1. P1 offers UX at $1599 (750 1.86GHz, 512MB DDR2 533MDIMM, 60GB 7200 RPM, Combo DVD & CDRW),
    2. and $1899 if upgrade memory to 1GB, dual layer DVD writer.
    3. MX costs $1899 (750 1.86GHz, memory 1GB (2x512MB dual), 60GB 7200 RPM, dual layer DVD writer)

With the Z33a, you'll be giving up the bigger & wider screen (Z33 is normal ratio), the sleek brushed aluminum, bluetooth and more expandability. You can add a lot more RAM to the W3V than you can with the Z33a. Also if multimedia functions is a plus, you'll be lacking all the shortcut keys on the sides and also lacking a stronger video card (ATI x600). I would say, it's better to jump for the W3V.

I had to make this very same decision. I ultimately decided to go with the Z33a because portability was at the top of my list. The weight and size of this thing is simply amazing. It is also important to remember the Z33ae is out which you can expand up to 1gb (512mb internal/512mb micro-dimm). I can put my Z33a into my sleeve and camelback backpack and it fits perfectly. Although, I realized I wanted to play more games on my Z33a then it could handle. Now i got a shuttle desktop to solve that issue.

The performance of the two systems is identical except for graphics. The W3v can take more ram since it has two DDR2 so-dimm slots and the Z33a only has one slot (and one internal). The W3v also has the DVD burner and bluetooth which are both very nice.

It comes down to your needs. I was very set on buying an ultraportable and thatÂ’s what I got. For the most part I have been happy. If you want a small machine that can do some gaming, dvd burning, and has bluetooth, the W3v is your best option.

    z33ae
    $1040 for base: 1.73, combo, 512mb

    +40 for 1.86Ghz
    +165 for 80GB 7200rpm
    +70 for 512MB MDIMM
    = 1315+ ship.

Under 1400 for very decent specs.
