Yea, I noticed that in HUB magazine last week - but I wasn't sure if it was right, because the MRSP is 2449 isnt it?

Was just wary of a place I didnt know much of.

That's probably the cheapest W3V in Toronto (unless you know the seller...)

V6V is selling for $2299 Cdn at CompuCanada ( www.compucanada.com). It's not on their website, but I asked out of curiousity when I was buying my W3V.

canada computers has the w3v for $2099 (cash price) and the v2v for $2199 (cash price). they don't list it so i'm not sure if it comes with the bag and mouse.

I imagine that is the lowest price in toronto currently. i was considering a thinkpad or a dell but after reading about the w3v i'm pretty impressed. aside from doing more research on the laptop itself, i'm just leary about laying down that much cash at these computer shops (versus a larger retailer like FS).

    Thoughts?

I bought mine from canadasys, had no problems whatsoever, and in fact i was the 1st one to buy an asus laptop from canadasys in the scarborough location :D and i've been happy with it ever since. The only real advantage to futureshop/bestbuy etc. is that if you suddenly decide next week you no longer want this laptop for whatever reason you can return it. The guys at canadasys will not be so happy to take back that type of product, and in their defense it is sort of unfair becuase this is the only way they can keep their prices low, otherwise they will have alot of returned stuff. Anyway if you have the money for it, go for it, asus rocks!

Yeah sorry, the prices dropped since all the ensembles's prices dropped in the States. Before this weekend though, the previously mentioned prices were the cheapest.

Yeah.. it seems like it'll be cheaper now to order from Proportable and have it shipped to Canada. Since it'll work out to be about $2100CDN before taxes if any.

It will not be cheaper to have it shipped to Canada, because there's an additional 15% customs on top of any taxes applicable to your province. For Ontario, that's 15% plus 15% GST & PST, coming to 30%. So you'll pay a total of $2730 on top of having to go through the trouble of having it shipped to Canada, which also makes it harder to get it serviced in case of any issues with the laptop.

CanadaSys is a reputable seller, though from my own dealings with them, they don't have much knowledge on the products their selling. However, this should not affect your purchase, as long as you have done your research beforehand.

CanadaSys' website ( www.canadasys.com ) says they do price matching. But when I went to them and ask if they would price match PCVillageCanada's price of $2,168 (about a month ago), the guy I was talking to there was very hesitant and decided to show me how thin their profit margins are. I think they have a policy where they won't match anything that's on promotional sale or something like that (it's mentioned in www.notebookforum.ca)

If one were to buy the z70v, however, CanadaSys would be the place to go in Toronto (not Pacifica 'cause they're so pushy).

If I remember right... there was a debate on if you have to pay customs/tax on incoming laptop. I "think" some Canadian that ordered from Proportable didn't have to pay the tax and/or GST or something like that.

Yes, this was way back when... I am sure Justin can confirm this. If I remember correctly.. for ensemble laptops there is only normal tax and gst.

I think any such debate would have to do with NAFTA regulations, and I believe that NAFTA allows free passage of electronics, like laptops, that are built in the United States, if the purchase of said electronics is done by a reseller in Canada. I do not believe it applies to individuals, although customs has been known to let some things slip. Also, as ASUS is a Taiwan-based company, I don't think that NAFTA would apply, and customs would be charged at the full 15%.

I find that unless you're imporing large amounts of things or very special items, customs tends to be very inconsistent. I wouldn't be surprised at all if only tax was charged on Asus laptops.

It seems like prices are dropping on the Ensemble line. V6V is now $2199 at a store here in Edmonton where as last week it was still $24XX.
