Try installing modded drivers. They usually have better notebook compatability, since manufacturers (Asus, in your case, I think) have INF files specific to their own notebooks.

For nVidia, go to Laptop2Go or Driverheaven.net. I have found that they are updated often and work the best.

Compatible ones for his notebook gautam, are the Catalyst 6.6. Have you tried uninstalling the old drivers and then installing the new ones? Also if Catalyst doesnt work - use Omega Drivers, which are better than the Catalysts at some times.

you cant use those drivers. Must be the drivers of the cd or aftermarket omegas or whatever hacks people use now a days. If you ask me anything aftermarket is cause for error and problems especially aftermarket video drivers

    1) Normal Catalyst drivers don't work with Mobility (laptop) cards

    2) If you have an ATI Radeon X1000 series card (X1400, X1600, and so on), use the Catalyst Mobility drivers, suite 6.6 and up (earlier versions do not support X1000 cards). Omegas are known to have issues with these cards so far. Best to play it safe.

    3) For Radeon Xx00 cards (X300, X700, etc), the Omegas work very well. You can use either suite and be fine. IMPORTANT: In order to overclock properly with the Radeon Xx00 cards, do not go any further than the 6.3 drivers - newer suites will not permit you to overclock your video card.

    4) Do not attempt to download the Mobility drivers from ATI by navigating through their site - they will make you go through an 'authentication' process, which checks to see if your notebook is on the 'supported' list. It doesn't make much of a difference either way; some manufacturers want you to use their drivers only (which again, doesn't make much of a difference) for support purposes, hence you have to go through the process. By following the direct link, you don't.

    5) Link to Omega Drivers Downloads

    6) Direct Link to download ATI Catalyst Mobility drivers

Are you reffering to the ATI Mobility drivers? If you use the link I posted, they'll install just fine without any 'hack'. And as for 'aftermarket' video drivers, I agree with you as far as something like Omega drivers go, but I would also consider Asus as an 'aftermarket' driver for a ATI card.

I agree with Lee on this one. I don't know about the quality of the ASUS driver, but with my current HP, the driver from their site is just horrible. In order to play games with any sort of decent graphics (it's only a 9200 anyway), I needed to use Modified Catalyst drivers. As it stands though, I can't go any newer than Cat 5.6 without corruption. From my experience, the closer you can stay to default ATI drivers, the better your graphics performance will be. ASUS might not be modifying much, but it has been my experience with all systems that the stock drivers are not as good as the ones from ATI/NVIDIA.
