Looking for a first time laptop, first thought about the inspiron 1520's and although tempting, I have heard some bad things about them. So, I now have been looking around and have learned that Asus offers high quality laptops at a relatively low price. It is almost impossible for me to get other high quality brands like clevo, sager, and compal, because the prices are high here how the relatively mediocre components, and due to my budget I am left disgruntled.

I've been looking at the c90s, but the battery life has scared me away. I'm looking for Santa Rosa CPU's and high quality GPU's (high 7x00/8x00 series).

PS: Anyone know a way to get a g1s for cheap?

Errrr, get a job or something to use that extra few hundred? You can't really buy anything under costs, losing money isn't something a business would do.

For under 1500, you can't really get much, the 1520 is a decent option, looks like your only one.

Yeah, I guess I'll go with the 1520. I mean, it's not that bad, right? I guess my dreams of laptop-awesome-ness will have to wait- I'm only 15 anyways.

    It's a good thing there's a Dell kiosk at a local mall......"negotiation" at it's finest

I don't think Canada is the 51st state of America, is it? ;)

And you can't easily find a Compal/Sager notebook up here without importing, and with taxes and possible duties, it'll be way over $1500.

It's decent, but the Dell will still be a tad cheaper and more powerful video-wise.

The F3sv is still over $1500, though under with a mail in rebate, after taxes.

Well, if you are going for a Dell, I must say I like the Vostro 1500 better than the Inspiron 1520. It has the same basic chassis except its completely black, and (in the US at least) I have found its cheaper as well. A nicely equipped notebook with an 8600GT for under 1k USD is a pretty amazing thing....

You can alway try to buy used, unless you rather not go that route.
