My z81sp was only supposed to come with a 8X DVD Dual / Double Layer DVD+RW. The dvd drive was getting extremely loud and it almost sounded like it was damaging the cd.
So i went into nero drive speed to lower it so that it wouldn't destroy my cd, and it was set all the way up to 24x, and i couldn't set it to 8x. Only 6x, 24 x (and i think 12 and 18x). Also, in mycomputer, it says that I have a dvd RAM.
Can dvd drives be overclocked to do more than they're supposed to, or did somebody send me a better drive than they were supposed to.

DVDRW's have a ton of different speed ratings, including different ones for CD's and DVD's.
When you see 8x DVDRW, usually that indicates what speed they write to DVD+R's. They also have speed ratings for writing to DVD-R's, DVD+RW's, DVD-RW's, reading CD's, writing to CDR's and CDRW's. The 24x you saw was probably the speed it writes to CDR's, if I were to guess.
Also keep in mind that 8x in terms of DVD's is not the same as 8x in terms of CD's. For DVD's, each "x" counts for roughly 11mbps. For CD's its about 150kbps per "x".
So, in short, while it may be possible to overclock an optical drive its extremely unlikely that that's what you've got in this case. -
1x for DVDs is 1.385MBs.

What about how it's listed as a dvd RAM??? I was supposed to get a 8X DVD Dual / Double Layer DVD+RW, but it's listed as a DVD RAM in Mycomputer. Are they one in the same???

DVD-RAM is another variant of DVDs. Once the disc is formatted, it allows dragging and dropping within Windows Explorer. It makes a good choice for doing backups. You can still do +/-Rs as well.

1.385MBs = ~11Mbps -
24x? That sounds like CD-R or R/W writing speeds, not DVD.

Oh yeah londez, try playing with Drivespeed. If you looked at it for more than 5 seconds you would've noticed you can set your own speed settings. Those listed are just autodetected or presets.
Can u overclock dvd players???
