I can not seem to figure out how to get my built in microphone to work. I am running windows 7 64. I installed the realtek software but my notebook does not seem to recognize the built in mic.

What steps can I take to get it working? I have had windows 7 for a while now but I never needed the mic until before now. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks :)

I have gotten no where on my own. I think if it is possible I have actually gone further from somewhere, past no where, and into oblivion.

Yep. I even uninstalled and reinstalled it to make sure everything went through as it should have. It seems as though nothing even recognizes that my system has a mic. I went to the control panel -> devices and there was no mic listed.

I have kinda given up on solving the issue through my own troubleshooting. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Hi what do you want to do with it and what is your exact version of windows and what kinds of software are you both running now and planing to run later. As I had the same issue with the some drivers versions that come with it but I may be able to find some kind of fix if you tell me those 2 things as I have the C90S as well but with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit for example the included version of the Azurewave Camera Driver and if I recall its camera program were in conflict with the both the Mic and the sound when you try to use the mic in some programs in some versions of 7.
But it depends on what you want to do I think if I recall and its been so long I think what I did was to find the .exe from a good version of the camera program and back that up than uninstall the Azurewave Camera Drivers than install the newest Camera Drivers then if the mic will not work than take that .exe that was backed up and over write the other camera .exe and use it to get I think I did it that way my self but for me it just works now so any way I know it sounds complicated but its all I got
Unless I know a lot more details about the kinds of things you want to do on with your mic I cant promise you anything but I can look for other things you can try if I know more about your C90S Software and the the goals you have in mind for it.

The goal for my mic was just to get it running in general. I do not see how its uses can help but if you say so... what I will be using it for is chat over steam and ventrilo most likely.

I run Windows 7 64bit. This post talks about my camera drivers and what kind/version they are.

I do not quite understand your proposed instructions so I will wait for a reply. Thanks for taking the time to try to help me. It is genuinely appreciated.

I know it sounds silly at first I was confused as well only in my case I just gave up the first time and Did a full and Total Clean install however I eventually found other ways. Now let me guess before you had Windows 7 64bit you came from Vista Probably 64bit as well and it was a upgrade namely that you did NOT totally delete 100% of your hard drive and reformat it. Than do a fresh Clean install of your Windows 7 64bit does this sound close?

As for the exact reason why the programs you want to use can some times be an issue its became they tend to ask the OS for Exclusive Mode or dedicated access to the device and the OS including the drivers but only some programs do this as realtek like all windows based sound cards support this in the sound control panel. A over simplified explanation is Think of it like how your anti virus software often locks things up it needs to use in the OS

Now you can go in to the sound control panel and unchecked this disables this but with a huge draw back that tons of chat software wont get sound or will fail all together with out waning when you lease expect it to like in the middle of your chat with who ever you are in the middle with definitely not recommended unless intentional.

In this case I found now that I am fairly sure that like my self you also had vista before 7. I found that a conflict in the camera with the chat soft ware vs the sound card stuff. That like myself once installed canceled out the microphone in the sound card. I had this issue when I wanted to go from Vista Ultimate 64bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit directly. The moment I installed the 2 things the Genesys camera and Skype. Thats my free web chat software the mic went dead but before those 2 things with only sound it was just fine.

Can you down load some software drivers if I upload them somewhere. If I can dig up or find out where I put my drivers. Because I am pretty sure I already did Kens thing as my version has been 1.0.8.14 for a very long time. Only I can make all the calls I want on Skype and do web cam as well.

If you can download from any ware online that I can upload them to. Than I can start digging around my archives and backups as I know I would not have got rid of something one of a kind that I had to custom mod like that.
