C90S Fixed TurboGear Hotkey in XP!!

Ok, good news boys and girls. The Hotkey for Turbo Gear works on the C90S now in XP. First I'd like to thank Microsoft for putting out such screwed up Utilities that it uninstalled every part of ATK when I tried to uninstall them, thank you very much for screwing up my Notebook.

Here is what happened, about a week ago a MS Update showed up for ATK100, cool a new version I thought might as well try em. They ended up being one of the worst drivers/utility I could ever download. I uninstalled them and low and behold everything form the Hotkeys to Turbo Gear stops functioning. I uninstall ATK Utility, ATK Hotkeys, Turbo Gear and the Turbo Gear VGA.

So, now I'm stuck. First off, Asus does not have the ATK Drivers listed, only the Utility for the Hotkeys which don't work without the drivers. I scan around and notice a new sub menu under Notebook in the download section called Drivers. I go there and I spot 2 things, ATKDrv and ATK_Hotkeys. I download the drivers first since that what I'm missing, then I go to the ATK_Hotkeys listing and low and behold a new version. Newer then the current C90S listing. I download them and install, I reboot my PC and the Hotkeys are working again. I then install Turbo Gear and the VGA addon and try the Hotkey out of habit and guess what. IT WORKS. I confirmed this with Everest, yeay!

Now the only two things still not working are the Email hotkey to work with Live Mail and the Turbo Gear VGA add on or any OC to work with any drivers but 101.17.

 

with that "fixed" working hotkeys do you see TurboGear icons at the top left when you click turbogear hotkey?

anyway, i have installed hotkey drivers trough asus support->notebook->drivers
ATK hotkey and new ATK driver from ASUS, and my hotkeys have stopped working, reverting back to previously hotkey software i had in a folder where i put all my c90s good drivers, hotkey starts working as before...the only hotkey that doesnt work in XP is turbo gear hotkey...just a fact

 

I swear it works for me :/ I will have to boot into xp and check.

 

update: no it doesnt work for me in xp. I swore it did but its been a long time since I have used xp so I guess my memory failed me.

Tell me about it.... 3 sets of ram I bought for the c90 (3 sets of 2gb sticks I should say, 4 sets of ram if you include the 1gb sticks I actually use) get this!!!

I asked Gskill before I got the ram from them if it was compatible, they said it was and it ended up not being compatible at all, wont even boot in battery mode. Well the email I asked them that question in was in my work account and I didnt know that so I thought i had lost my proof that I was told it worked.

I was about to sell it on ebay last night at a loss of probably 20% of what i paid or more, but ran across the email where I was told by a gskill guy named Denny that it worked. Sent them a very nice email explaning the ram doesnt work, that its only been used for an hour and that I need a refund because its only right they take responsability for saying it works and it doesnt.

A day later I get an email from them saying the ram does work, and they link me to asus's page with the c90 info saying it supports up to 3gb of ddr2 800mhz and in other words saying I am wrong when both me and ken have tested it and we are both computer experts to the nth degree.

So I sent another email, this time not in a friendly tone, saying pretty much they better fix the issue and not tell me what i dont know or I will rip there good name a good one on the various forums that I have a big name on and the loss to them will be much greater in lost sales than just fixing the issue with me.

I really dont want to sell the ram, I had to take the heatspreader off to isntall it, and in doing so it voids the warrenty, so nobody is going to want to pay even close to the price I paid for it due to that reason. They even admited that removing the heat spreader is needed for most notebooks to use it.

 

Little icon in the corner and everything, just like it works in Vista, but now it works in XP. I have one of the first releases so it not like its a new rev or something, I'd like to here from some of the folks who have the driver disc v2 if theres work out of the box.

As I said, I uninstalled everything ATK related, Turbo Gear and and I have bios 801. I started with with the new drivers I found on Asus's web site via the Driver section under Notebooks. I also would like to note now I have 2 listings of ATK Hotkeys under the Add/Remove Software tab, I only noticed this yesterday when I was screwing around with the video drivers. Then again after running Nero's update I also have a listing for 2 Nero in there as well.

 

ALL HOTKEYS WORKING!

First, I uninstalled the ATI hotkey driver from add/remove
Second, uninstalled the ATK Utility program from add/remove (restart)
Third, installed the NEW ATK driver mentioned in first post (restart)
Fourth, installed the NEW ATK utility program mentioned in first post
Fifth, intstalled the NEW ATK utility program AGAIN
WORKS NOW! Even though its very strange that I had to install the utility program twice...

 

Every hotkey works, its just that I uninstalled Outlook and the email hotkey doesn't work with Live Mail :-(

OK, this is just odd... I got an error on XP w/801 bios saying:
"Turbo Gear does not support this model or you must upgrade bios"

This happened after a clean reinstall of XP sp2 and latest Asus Drivers.
Turbo gear WAS working with 801 BIOS update before I reinstalled the OS.
I used the Lv2g gpu driver on previous install.
Turbo gear has enhanced Vga, I did not install that part.

 

I got this error, I just reinstalled Turbo Gear and it fixed it.

And you only need to install ATK Hotkeys once and reboot and it works.
