Are there any 14" models being released within the next year that have a solid build and good looks of the W3J, with the video power and hi-res lcd of the A8Js?

It seems they have done that with the 15.4" models, G1 and V1.

Should I just settle with the A8js or W3J for now or wait a bit?

Yes, wait for the Lenovo Y400 or Asus V2, both are going to blow the rest of the market away. :)

The thing is, no matter how long you wait, there is always something on the horizon.

Whether you get it now, or get something in 5 months, there will always be something newer and better.

Just buy it when you need it.

Well, I don't normally advocate waiting, but with Vista *and* Santa Rosa on the *immediate* horizon, you need to be really desperate to buy anything now! ;)

Lenovo Y400 should be out on the 15th Dec, but haven't see it yet in the market.

The V2 will be far more expensive than the A8Js (you pay a lot for the useless-to-almost-everyone extras like built-in WWAN), and as for the Y400 - you're kidding, right? A Go7300 doesn't even come close to the "video power" of the Go7700 or x1700. And it only has a T5500 to boot. Unless it's really cheap (I couldn't find US pricing, only Chinese) or the American specs differ wildly from the Chinese ones, it doesn't seem like that great a deal.

That said, the V2 does describe what you're looking for - but it's probably going to be an easy $400 more than the A8Js, with a slightly weaker GPU as well.

As in Q2 2007.....and then ASUS will not have models out for another little while.....that is not "immediate".

Vista on the other hand....why wait when you have the free upgrade promotion..you dont even have to worry about vista....?
