I had been looking for a builder to customize a ASUS G73JH-A1 Laptop. Since I value the forums opinions, I checked the threads here for your thoughts. In the ASUS G73JH-A1 thread part 2 found that one builder said because of the difficulty of reaching the components, the option was not being offered anymore. So I checked a little further and found some other laptops like the ASUS N71JQ-A1 and ASUS K42Jr-A1 had the option for $35. These laptops would pose the same if not more difficulty to replace the thermal paste. Ok whats up with that??? (makes u wonder if they can really replace the paste for that price??) In addition builders offer CPU upgrades so the thermal paste has to be replaced anyway. I did find one builder that would do it (Powernotebooks). Their charge of $125 for thermal paste replacement on GPU/CPU seemed reasonable for the 2hr+ labor involved. I elected for a CPU upgrade with my build and the thermal replacement is free on GPU/CPU. I build my own desktops, so know the value of a good thermal paste. So hope if replacing thermal paste was part of ur notebook build plans, this information may be of interest? :)

Thanks for additional links. Those are two I did not check on. BTO offers it only on CPU upgrades and AGear $20 which brings up the question I posed above???? If it was only on an upgrade, seems reasonable but looks like they offer it w/o too???

Hmm, if you play with desktops, you have the paste already ;) You might be able to DIY. All you need a way to work around the warranty voiding sticker (when removed) right?
And besides, 125$ is too steep for something you can do for less than 2 hours. It takes me 15-30min to deal with any of my laptops, and for a skilled tech shouldn't take much longer, plus there's a risk of getting the system damaged if the techs aren't too good.

It is usually better to know what you are talking about before posting claims that a competent technician can get to the CPU and GPU on the ASUS G73JH, replace the thermal paste, and put it all back together within 15-30 minutes.

It simply cannot be done on the ASUS G73JH, ASUS N71JQ-A1 or ASUS K42Jr-A1 and I would challenge anyone who would make that claim.

Understand that the bottom case has to be taken totally apart, which also requires removal of the screen, and then the motherboard has to be removed completely and turned over just to get at the components. This is not just a simple procedure of removing the bottom panel, or removing the keyboard. In the case of these models both of the above are done in the 1st 5 minutes...and then the rest of the fun begins.
