Hello guys i ve decided to get an asus laptop, i m intrested in Z70va and the new model with Nvidia 6600 Go. The Nvidia model is cheaper than the Z70va. My config would be
    Intel Pentium M 1.86
    1GB RAM
    60 GB HDD
    and all other common stuff...

So i ll use this for my college and some 3d modelling in maya and studio max, So please give me which one is better in case of performance. i like the Z70va because its black and sleek for the aesthetics part. i have not decided whic one to take but i wanna order it in 3 days. i need one soon. please tell me the site where can i buy reliable stuff at low cost

Depends where you live, so te pricing may be different. But in general, PROPortable and Geared2Play in the US and CanadaSys in Canada(duh! :p) are good places.

The price difference between the z70va and z71v are quite big, and for that price you could upgrade the z71v a bit more, but it depends how much you want to pay.

For Maya and other related apps, Nvidia cards have a slight edge because of OpenGL. This is something to consider, especially if you're going to do a lot of modeling. The Z71V might be the better choice, in your case.

As for resellers, you really can't go wrong with...

ISTNC (where I got my Z70va)
    ProPortable
    Geared2Play

    Good luck with your decision!

No matter how much Autodesk pushed Nvidia for their openGL, I'd still take an ATI card any day of the week.....

I've been using Maya, 3Ds max and solidworks... solid for the better part of 6-7 years... But bacilly you're got something skewed.. the Z70va has the 128mb ATI x700 and the Z71v has the 128mb Nvidia 6600 --- I've got with the Z70va and I swear you'll be happier in the end....

Last comment - 60gb/7200rpm.... that'll make renderings scream. Other than that, I think you've got a good setup.

Agreed. I'd take an ATi card too - the OpenGL advantage with Nvidia is sometimes exaggerated.

ATi cards have more brute power from what I have seen. That's one of the reasons why I like them. ;)

    My 256MB DDR2 9800XT is a beast!

For realtime rendering they are marginally better, but an ATI card can still kick Nvidia's end in an entire scene rendering and that's really what's more important for jobs he'll be doing.... I don't know too many people who would waste their time working on a full rendered object anyway..... but you've got to be using the software for years to realize how to use it efficently.... I honestly think Autodesk has more than just a few ties to Nvidia....

I'm well aware which card is in which notebook. The geeks where I work (the CDC) swear by Nvidia for OpenGL, but if ATI works as well, then the Z70va wins in EVERY category. I love mine. Go for it!!

Do some of your own research.... there are certain things that are purely subjective and if you don't know the difference to begin with, nothing anyone says is going to mean anything to you.

wow it was a cool reply from proportable. I ve been researching on this for the past one month. Both of them seem attractive for me, but excluding the grafix card i dont find to see the difference correct me if i m wrong, and Z 71 V has a provision for SATa but i saw it in a diff forum that its a faking

I'd probably go with the Z70VA - it has a better looking chassis than the 71V. Also, it is made out of carbon-fiber, so it will be lighter and stronger.

Z70VA gets my vote ;) :asus:
