I picked up my G71 about a week ago at BB. Now I need a backpack to lug this massive thing around in. Anyone out there buy a backpack for this laptop yet?

I plan on storing the laptop, a cooler (Zalman NC2000), and power adapter. I also don't want to spend more than like a 100 on this thing which basically rules out booq bags.

Some ones I've found on the internet so far to name a few:
    Mobile Edge
    Velocity Matrix Pro
    Belkin
    Targus XL
    Targus Groove

    Any input will be appreciated!

I have a targus backpack and its built very well and has a lot of padding on the back to stay comfortable. Got it a year ago and its still like new (daily use at college).

Thanks Jebobek. This backpack seems to be the most affordable for the size. Plus I saw that review of the guy who was able to fit his laptop cooler inside as well. Might just have to get one :)

Actually after taking a look at the alternatives/prices, I decided to order this one as well. My notebook-to-be is an asus G50VT-X5, so the backpack size might be overkill, but I'll be able to fit my own NC-2000 in there as well as some books.

I found one by Targus that I actually like better than the XL shown HERE.

But unfortunately.... It is out of STOCK every single place you look. So I wonder if it is going to be discontinued.

Well, just slide the G51 into the backpack and see how you like it.

If not, than what I linked before would be a surefire way of being big enough. It actually might be overkill if you aren't planning on trying to fit a cooler in there as well.

Since I previously owned a G51 for a few days... it is definitely the size of a normal 17" laptop. I looked at the backpack you currently own... and it may be a pretty tight squeeze, but managable.

If you plan on lugging around a notebook cooler as well, then your definitely going to have to find a 17" laptop backpack.

Targus XL is humongous but it will get the job done. (See link above)
Slappa has some bags too (which are ugly in my opinion) that will also work well

If you just want it to fit your laptop, then I'd reccomend the targus Citygear 17"

i bought an enormous swissgear backpack. i mean you can live in this thing. its absolutely gorgeous and has room for everything, and its extremely comfortable if you have good posture.

On the inside, it has a zipper specifically for your cord, and it has an IPOD hole for earphones. it also has regular earphone compartmenr, or whatever (store change in there?) it has a little compartment in the top for your wallet or whatever. It has a velcro area for a flash drive too.

I carry a textbook, a reading book, graphing Calculator and its instruction booklet, three compositions, two manilla folders (and a regular pocket folder), a change of clothes, the laptop, a flash drive, my IPOD and phone, two water bottles, my CD booklet (holds 50, tall), my weightlifting gloves, and still has a little room to spare. Its' heavy though. at least 20 or 30 pounds loaded like that. But you can literally go camping with it. Did i mention it is comfortable EVEN WITH ALL MY CRAP IN IT?

Its hard to compare one size laptop to another, just from showcase images and dimensions. There should be a law to have at least one image of someone wearing this backpack. And this person has to be a standard 6ft. tall.

its easily the biggest laptop backpack i have ever seen. how does that work for a size comparison? its bigger than most camping backpacks, (except it has compartments, which make it seem smaller)

Hey Melinapayne, would that Swissgear hold the G71 and a Zalman NC2000? (The Zalman is roughly as big as the laptop)

thunder- it most likely will. the laptop may only have one spot for a 17" laptop, but by looking, it can hold TWO 17 inch laptops. I would not doube that this computer can hold the zalman cooler

Currently I have a 14 inch HP and a lol 50ft extension cord that is swallowed by the main compartment. But I also carry my work gear in the other pockets which includes flashlight helmet gloves and a hook. In the winter I swap the helmet for a space heater.

Not sure if you have seen any bags made by Crumpler but they are super strong and durable. Also they don't shout out "notebook in here", which I find is quite good.

So are you saying, the main area for the laptop is big enough for two however there is no subdividing spacer that would go between say a laptop and a cooler.

I would not want the two banging into each other during their trips. I guess worse case you could make one, but I am curious.

So I finally ordered a backpack. I went with the North Face Box Shot

It has a dedicated laptop compartment, a huge main compartment for my cooler and then even has a dedicated zipper on the bottom for the AC adapter.

Just waiting for UPS to deliver. When I get it I'll post pictures and what not. And if it doesn't work out, Sunnysports will return it with no restocking fee which is pretty nice.

So here we go. Took me a long time to post this up but w/e... I bought the Northface Box Shot which is supposed to hold a 17" laptop. That statement is only slightly true.

You cannot put the G71GX into the dedicated laptop compartment, which was pretty disappointing BUT! you can put both the laptop and cooler together into the backpack which made me feel a little better.

There are a ton of zippers with little compartments everywhere including one at the bottom which also ticked me off because it is supposed to be an AC adapter spot. Unfortunately if you own a G71, the adapter is approximately the size of Texas and will not fill good into this spot. However... in my pictures you can see I fit all this crap into the bag with out any problem. If you plan on using this backpack for storing books also... you want to check out the Targus XL or Swiss Gear Ibex.

Overall this is a quality backpack and should last a lifetime assuming you take care of it. However I would only recommend this backpack if all you plan on carrying around is the laptop and accessories. No books or anything else!

I just got my hands on the Targus TXL617... I tried 3 others 15.4" backpacks before, and none could fit mine G51VX perfectly...

But this TXL617 from Targus is just awesome.. I can carry my laptop, the powerbrick, a notebook, and two books ( both huge 900+ pages ) with no problems at all, actually, theres still plenty of room left for way more stuffs
Lets say, a notebook cooler for example... And it doenst look huge from outside ;)

Im very happy with it, its well build, and very comfortable... sorry, but no pics of the notebook inside the space reserved for it, just my word: Its awesome :D

hmm, now that i tried again the Targus TXL617, i think its a bit overkill for my Asus G51VX =) I still love it though  Heres some crappy pictures:

This show I could fit 2 notebooks of mine in the dedicated notebook space  , maybe 3 :p

And thats the space I have left on the sides, about a hand ...

Ps.: Sorry for extremely low quality pics, its just to have an idea what im talking about ;)

    Yah! =)

The Pegasus by Swissgear can barely fit the Asus M70 laptop, hence it would not fit the G71Gx.

Just bought an Asus G51VX (and still waiting for its arrival). Where you bought yours? Pretty difficult to find someone here in Brazil who imports it.

Anyway, trying to find a good backpack for my G51 and that TXL617 called my attention. But i travel a lot, im living in Minas Gerais because of college and from time to time i come back to my hometown. I think the TXL617 is pretty big for this kind of trip (have to get bus and plane). What do you think?

    PS: First post, YAY!

Hey, Welcome to the forums xD

I'm gonna agree with you, yep, its really difficult to find someone to import notebooks like the G51VX to Brazil, I imported mine through a ML Vendor ( EBay like site )... Costs me around $ 2200,00 with all taxes and shipping included...

Anyway.. lets talk about the bag ;) It is a big bag, and that's why i love it, but because of its size, i think your not gonna be able to declare it as a handbag on bus travels... so, not sure if its save to throw this backpack with the notebook inside in the bags compartment... But, i guess you can always carry ONLY the notebook inside and the powerbrick, and it will be almost like a normal bag :p

But as i said before, I tried others 15.4" bags before, including a Targus for 15" notebooks, and none worked for me, this TXL617 is just perfect... And at this moment, I dont see any better alternative bag for this notebook in Brazil ( I could not find any SwissGear here  )

Which ML vendor? Got mine there too and for almost the same price.

Well im using an Oakley backpack for traveling and theres a notebook space too but i think its for 14" notebooks cause its reaaallly small, but the backpack itself is HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. But im used to put clothes, my xbox360 etc etc etc inside it and for the TXL617 its just for the g51, NC2000, cables and portable devices.

I think im gonna order one, just gonna wait for the g51 arrival :D

    Ty for the info.

In my country there are not many choice for good 17" backpack . The swissgear
pegasus is one of the best i can find. I will have to look for another one then.
How about the Targus Voyager Backpack 17", will it fit?

That's pretty amazing because the G71 is larger than the M70, yet the M70 was already a really tight fit. Do you have to force the elastics to make it fit? And how well do the zippers on top zip up when you have the G71 in?

People need to understand that despite the G71GX-RX05 being a 17" laptop, it REALLY doesn't look like one, it's MASSIVE! It looks more like a 18.4"+ notebook, so you have to look for a backpack that would fit such a giant sized notebook.
