i just did a fresh reinstall of vista thinking that i may have accidentally screwed something up, but im still getting the BSOD when i play command and conquer generals zero hour. I havent tried any other games to see if they have the same problem too, but i would really like some help on this. I need to get rid of that screen when im trying to play a game. Gaming is part of the reason i bought this laptop.

does anyone have any idea what it could be?

someone said something about drivers and i would like to try the drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/vista but i dont know what version i need.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

the G8600M GS is not in the list of supported inf files for the 165.01, and i couldnt find it in any of the other lists.

do you have the G8600M GS?

I would also suggest a drivers change; unless you are using those now, try reverting to the stock drivers on the CD. Otherwise, look first for an update on the ASUS support.asus.com website.

    Only then try modded drivers.

Usually the stock drivers are the most stable (although they might not perform as well).

    [DEV_0400] NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS
    [DEV_0402] NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

are the only two 8600 drivers on the list (unless i missed one)

unless... does having those two on there automatically mean that mine is included as well?

Nvidia uses a unified driver architecture, so the drivers themselves support all the gpu's that were out when that series came out. And here's the entire G84-G86 section:
Note that there's both a 8600M GTS and a 8800M GS. They could've both been 8700M GT, but it was in fact earlier known as the 8800M GS. Also note that the 8600M GS is under G86... which is kinda weird, but still, it's there.
