I'm new here so if this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it.

By reading this forum I there seems to be great reviews about the hardware and service from Asus. I've read a lot about the ul30: vt, jt and about some other stuff about Asus other notebooks. My question is does Asus make notebook with a good LCD screen? I mean along the lines of a macbook pro, hp envy, sony z? Every Asus notebook with a 13in or 14 in panel hasn't gotten very reviews about their display.

This is just an honest question, I am searching for a windows notebook to replace my mbp. I am jumping back to windows but my budget is limited so I want to make the most informed decision I can. I usually get a new laptop every 3 years. The next computer I buy I hope to use for even longer than that.

I have a ASUS G73JH and the screen on this one is great. Mine does not have back bleed and the colors are sharp and bright.
But how something looks to most is subjective ,so what may look fine for some will not for others.
You just have to check and see for yourself, and buy what looks good to you, not what others see.

From what i've read, other than the g73, asus has begun using AUO screens. And they are pretty bad. The reviews on here even state that the colors and viewing angles are horrible.

Unless the 13-14" screen is IPS, it is common to see poor viewing angles - it's the nature of optics. The other thing to realize is that screen quality will go (to some extent) hand-in-hand with system price ... the more budget-mid oriented models have lower quality screens compared to their more expensive counterparts (LCD and motherboard being the most expensive part of any notebook).

As with many things in life, in many respects you do get what you pay for.

Thanks I appreciate the input. I was afraid I was going to get the usual. "Depends on what you call good"

From the looks of it asus hardware and support is great minus the screen but I'll keep an eye out on the forums to see if asus releases a new model with a decent screen.

    YES
    this is also my quest.
To find something that resembles Macbook Pro hardware
ie, the wide gamut and high contrast ratio screen and long battery life.......

Asus built quality is very high BUT
none, absolutely none of their screen comes close to Mac high contrast ratio of 800 and sRGB color gamut.

Yes, I would pay the same price as a Macbook Pro if ASUS
    make one !

Reason why I am not getting a Macbook Pro to run Windows is that their Windows drivers are bad.
There is absolutely no reason for Mac to spend a min to improve them.

I am in the exact boat as you. I love windows 7. After a powerbook and now macbook pro I'm willing to go back to windows. And yes the drivers are horrible.

The new macbook air is unbelievable but I really want to have a notebook with decent drivers for windows.
