For over a month now I'm looking to buy a new laptop and u36jc is about everything I want and need, BUT the screen is so damn reflective and disappointing that I just don't get it...
How can a company do everything right, the materials, the size, weight, specs... but fails so damn hard on one of the most important things...

if they update the screen (matte, better brightness and 1440 res) i'll promote this laptop everywhere I go :)

I can pretty much guarantee you that Asus will not put a matte screen in the U36Jc model. Better brightness? Maybe in their next refresh model. Higher res? AFAIK, probably not either given that Asus has never produced a 13" laptop with 1440x900 resolution.

maybe...but I don't get it!? Everywhere you look people are complaining about glossy screens. And then Samsung puts out series 9 with matte hi brightness screen for 1.6k $ and there are people standing in line to buy it. Isn't that a sign for laptop makers that yes, make cheap laptops for masses, but maybe it's wise to also make some models with matte (higher res) screen that are a bit more expensive...
I really belive that if Asus would put matte 1440 screen in the next u36 update, people would buy those laptops like mad, as laptop would have 4 and 5* reviews all over the web...

The U series is still a pretty mainstream laptop. Lots of casual users probably won't be able to tell the difference between 1366 and 1440, hence I really don't see how Asus will up their screen res in their refresh model.

Matte displays are usually targeted towards business users and the U36Jc is not marketed towards that segment. Asus does have a few business-class laptops that are fitted with matte displays, but those are not sold in large quantities like Lenovo, Dell or HP.

But to give the U36Jc some credit, the screen isn't at all that terrible. It's certainly usable in almost every indoor lighting environments. Screen resolution is perfectly fine for web browsing and word processing, but as soon as you start editing hi-res photos, you'll start seeing the limitations.
