A coupple of days ago I bought the Asus m5a, and my problem with it is the following. The fan seems to constantly run (at the lowest turn I suppose). The sound from it is not very high and I can probably live with it, but do anybody of you have any idea how I can shut it off, so that it only runns once in a while? Is it normal that a fan runns all the time? I do not know very much about computers, so if any of you have an idea or a solution, please explain it to one that knows next to zero. I'd really appreciate if someone could help me.

The M5 fan is always on...so this is normal, there is actually quite a few posts on this issue already so maybe a quick search will bring up some answers for you.
Although most issues were with the noise of the fan.
You could try speedfan or CHC or the like, but personally if the fan is not annoying then its probably best left on...dont want your lappy overheating.

Thanks! I'll do a quick search. I can live with the fan noise but I've started thinking about it every time I use the computer . . . it must be a pshycological thing . . . but thanks anyhow.

Thanks. Seems like most of the comments on fan noise is about the older m5n, not about the uppgraded m5a - does the m5a have the same fan problem, or is it less of a problem (the constantly running fan less noisy) on the m5a? And also, is the fan noise just as loud on the w5a (compared to the m5a). Happy for any reply.

I haven't heard anything about noisy fans on the M5a... actually, I haven't heard anything about the Z33a (which should theoretically be the same thing).

And yes... most of the fan complaints came from the older M5N/M5Np model. I'm wondering if it's possible that you might have received a sort of... in-between model of the M5 series that has all of the M5a features, yet still used some M5N parts? I don't know... but it seems like no one has complained about the M5a fan except for you (so far.)

Or maybe you just have very sensitive ears...

thanks, yes, I might have sensitive ears, but it doesn't solve my problem - the fan is constantly running even though it is (I suppose) running at a slow speed. In a silent room you hear the fan when you sit in front of the computer, and I'd prefer a computer that turned the fan on once in a while at a higer and more noisy speed instead of the constant running.

Hello, I have an M5np and a Z33a. I originally bought the z33a and loved it so much i went back and bought a M5np. I first thought the z33a was a little noisy and combatted the problem with a proper laptop stand which cooled the processor better and resulted in a quieter and slower turning fan. Then, I got the M5np. That thing is a jet engine in comparison to the z33a. I have been unable to throttle the fan speed to make any significant noise change. So, if the M5a that you have is the same as my Z33a, then you should be very happy you dont have a m5np!
