Yes, this has been touched on in one other thread I could find, but the problem there wasn't to the extreme like mine. There were 5 posts and no resolution, so I thought a new specified thread was warranted.

So, I have Asus K55a laptop. I purchased it last december. For the first few months everything was fine. And then my fan started kicking on for a little while after a little 5 minute of so silence after start up. Then it started doing this turning on and turning off cycle at like 3 second intervals every time I used it, which there is a 26 or so page thread dedicated to on here but no where was the k55a mentioned. No clear solution seemed to present itself either. Now my fan simply stays on all the time after I open up my laptop. Granted there is usually a few minutes before it kicks on. It usually turns on at like I'd guess around 5-15% speed and then quickly ramps up to I'd judge about 50% speed and stays like that until I go into sleep mode.

The most I am ever doing is browsing the web and occasionally playing videos.

When I do browse the web, I usually have quite a few tabs open. Does this make a difference? I use firefox (new version) if that matters.)

Ive tried notebook fan control program. It seems no config exists for my model. Ive tried fanspeed. Again, it seems that a lot of the values are missing for it to operate in anyway other than a temperature monitor.

According to that, my computer never even goes above 40C. Usually around 36-38.

Really, this was a problem with my last computer and one of the reasons I got a laptop was because they are usually quiet.

Any help would be much appreciated.

ps. Windows 8.1 and I also tried screwing around with power saving options to no avail.

    1. Open up the cover of your system, use air compressor or air gas can to clean the heatsink, and vent.
    2. Repaste thermal compound for the components such as the CPU, IC diamond is highly recommended.
    3. Lean up the start-up launch programs to reduce boot wait as well as resource utilization.
    4. Any type of processing by the processor will cause it to heat up, this includes opening up a few tabs as well as the content that you are viewing on each tab.
    5. Temperature is fairly normal, but it could be triggering in between silent and higher speed stages closely.
    6. Look for new BIOS update and see if a new fan table could have been possibly implemented by ASUS to resolve the issues you are having.
