Hello. I have a problem with an Asus K52JT laptop. After a longer period of power off (usually in the mornings, after the night), when I start it the screen is black, but the OS boots just fine (you can hear the Windows sounds & stuff). After 1 (usually) or 2 resets the screen works just fine. Now, to avoid the screen with "Start Windows normally/in safe mode", I'm just pressing the power button fast again after power-on (if the screen won't light up in 1-2 seconds) to stop the machine before booting, so I don't have to keep button pressed afterwards to turn it off. Still, I don't know what the problem could be and how abusing the power button on start up can affect my machine. What do you think? The problem started to become more serious in the last few days, since I needed to repeat the turn off/turn on procedure 3-4 times instead 1 or 2. Sorry for the bad english.

It could be your display adapter (the 6370M). When presented with the black screen, is the backlight on the screen on or off? And does the display toggle hotkey (FN + F8) do anything when you get no picture?

The backlight is off, and pressing FN+F8 does nothing.

Update: Lately, I've been turning on the laptop while unplugged (plugging it after start up), it seems like the issue appears far more rare this way. Also, the issue appears more after the laptop has been kept in lower temperature conditions (like ~15 Celsius). Any thoughts? HDD, bad inverter, power cable, display adapter, or what?

May be a faulty circuit/board or the display adapter. Very unlikely that it would be the HDD.

Thanks for help, I'm going to take the laptop to a service to look into it. On topic, I also have to mention that after the first time the problem occured, both the OS and TuneUp Utilities asked for a Check Disk.
