    Asus Z9000 configuration
    1.7 Ghz
    1GB RAM
    64 GB, 7200rpm
    Windows XP Professional
    15' display

    Asus L5GM
    same configuration as above but
    with Pentium 4 3.0Ghz (800Hz)

I need the system mostly for application development and client demos.

    Based on my research:
Z9 is thinner, lighter with better battery life.
It seems that L5GM (and in general notebooks powered by Pentium 4 chips) are more powerful.

Did anybody test this assumption in real life scenarios?

    /regards

You forgot two major difference, which are the GPU and screen. The Z9000 has a ATI9100, while the L5GM has a Nvidia® GeForce™ FX Go 5650, and ACE view screen which will provide wide viewing angles and higher res (SXGA vs XGA).
The L5 is well suited to games and other multimedia stuff which require lots of horse power. Given you needs I think you would be better served with the lighter/sleaker looking Z9. The extra battery life will also help when your showing demos to clients away from a power source. I guessing it would be pretty embarasing if you lappie cut out halfway thru due to a lack of battery power!

Oh yeah the 1.7PM is roughly equal to a 2.6+ P4 (1.7*1.5), so I doubt you would notice too much of a performace difference in real world situations.

Yes, you are right. I knew about the display difference.

I hope that I can find a shop that have both so I can check them side by side, if not I think I will go with the Z9.

    Thank you
