I came across a picture of someone taking apart their Z70V and noticed right under the plastic cover where the HD is located, there is a metal plate. Anyone know if your Z71V has that too?

I don't seem to have one on mind and wasn't sure was it missing to begin with or it doesn't have one.

By the way, what the heck is that little adapter that say SATA? I thought the notebook is native SATA and you need the adapter if you use PATA, i seem to have it extra in the box, wonder if that is extra or the notebook native is PATA?

I can personally asure YOU that you have the right parts in your hard drive bay.

Are you talking about the little metal clip that is screwed down that holds down the hard drive? If so, that is needed becasue the the attachment of the hard drive is down instead of in.. if that makes sense.

The motherboard is native sATA.... but Asus made a proprietary adapter so that you could use pATA or sATA....... so when you do get an sata drive and use that adapter you're getting the full benefits of sata.

    Thanks,
    Justin

If you see above there is a metal face plate which sit between the HD and the plastic cover. I don't seem to have that piece when I looked at my HD recently. My HD was loosely in place, the minute the plastic cover was removed, the HD pop right up.

Yeah, you know what... our's are different. Your metal sleeve is actually upside down compared to that. It is because your unit is ready for pata or sata and the conection is different and with that they just changed the way the hard drive sat in there.

That connection is for a straight pata notebook...... similar to how the M6's (and now z70's) work..... that little plastic connection from the hard drive to the computer is so the drive and just slide up instead of being pulled out and then up like some of the other systems need to do.

That's all....... it's not a big deal... the set up we have in the states is better since it'll accept both pata and sata.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Isn't there supposed to be 4 screws to hold the drive in place from falling out?

The minute I remove that plastic cover top, the HD auto pops out. There should be something to hold it down, no?

No.... part of that may be where the hard drive carrier is placed..... there is a lip on the left side that it can fit under... that might fit a little better.
