    Thank you Justin @ Proportable.COM!
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

    OMFG!

    Here is a quick impression:

This baby is better looking than I had expected. All those pictures doesn't really show how sweet this baby looks. It is as light as my IBM T42 with bigger screen!!!

In the BIOS, you can not change the memory setting or cpu clock. So you have to rely on other software to do that I suppose.

The screen actually looks pretty good. Sharp and nice from all angle

Interesting that the battery is in the front right below the palm rest. I suppose this way the HD could be moved towards the middle / back. This might explain why the palm rest area isn't as hot as most laptop out there.

Proportable delivered it w/o the proportable logo whatsoever. Onlything on there is the Build on Asus logo on the cover and inside, which is exactly how i like it

Fan and DVD drive on installing windows right now is pretty quiet. Much quieter than the IBM T42 next to me.

More indept info once I get it all setup and situated. Here is some pictures for you in the meantime.

    My impressions:

Build: Feels strong and solid like metal.Don't know what is made up of.Definately does not feel plasticky !

Screen: NO DEAD PIXELS,non-bright/non-glare matte type. No obvious flare or sparkle or light leak.Excellant viewing angles without distortions of washouts.

Keybord.: nice firm strokes,no sag or bend.IBM type feel

    No fan noise noticable

Did not heat in One hour of use on AC.

Loaded my own copy of windows xp home and the accompanying drivers.

Windows booted up in 20 seconds.

AC adapter is small and compact. Not a brick.

    SATA adapter was included.

A carry bag was also included, of decent quality.

Proportable did NOT charge shipping fee though it was included in the initial pre-order.

Paid 2053 $$ for the whole lot !!

MANY THANKS TO JUSTIN AT PROPORTABLE'

Wireless LAN connected immeadiately upon loading my wep key.

Overall very solid feel and design is great.

    Cheers

    smilepak-

Photographs do not do justice to it.

Looks great actually.Gunmetal grey with a pale grey trim

    Comes with SATA adapter.

    Fan very silent

I have installed my copy of Windows XP home.

I have the blue screen on.

The screen looks beautifull blue to me.

Either I am ignorant or I cannot make out what is a sparkle .

I will try the green screen later, but who needs a green screen?

    Cheers

I would have to see when it finish installation. But so far, it is pretty nice system. Ofcourse during the installation of Windows the screen look wacked because it doesn't have the proper drives running yet. But otherwise, awesome machine...

I agree, photographs of it could not show you how nice this baby looks. It look much better than any picture you see of it.

It has been running for 2 hours so far and the palm rest, very very slightly warm....Compared to IBM Thinkpad, hell lot cooler at the palm rest area.

The blue glow at the power button is actually quite attractive at night!!

I'm glad you guys like them..... I'm blessed with the chance to use all of our systems and right now, it's my least favorite to look at.... Don't get me wrong, it's a great machine.... but think about what you think of the Z7 and consider what the W and V series is like if I think the Z7 is on a lower rung. [ :D]

    Enjoy!

    Thanks,
    Justin

I guess when you've been around the highest quality stuff for years like I have.... I get a false sense of what I think is good and bad....

I did not go just by the outer beauty of the laptop just as I did not do so when I married.

I go for the higher specifications. [ ;)]

Oh boy..... The first time I read that... all I saw was... " I didn't go by the outer beauty... " ... I didn't read the "just" and then I was thinking.. man, I hope your wife thinks the laptop is good looking.

Here is an interesting finding I gotten so far.

The nVidia driver which comes with the notebook is version 71.13. In 3D Mark 2005, I could get around 1730ish (give or take)...

The latest driver on nVidia website 71.84 "DOES NOT" support the nVidia GO 6600!! which is a total bummer.

However, if you go to Guru3D.com and download the xtreme driver, which incorporate the 71.84 from nVidia and sort of mod a bit, you could pump 3D Mark 2005 to around 1800ish (that is w/o the memory and cpu over clocking!!!)

Just thought that was interesting. So far, I have yet to find another driver working with this laptop other than that one. What is interesting is the Toshiba Tecra series also uses the nVidia GO 6600, but their drivers won't detect the Asus version. I believe the Tecra uses the MXM version of the board, while Asus uses the non-MXM version of the board.
