I understand the Z70va has a "creaky" palm rest at the spot directly over the DVD/CD drive. I have been told it is quite annoying - unless the speakers are set so loud you cannot hear it.

Can someone confirm or deny this ?

Depends how hard you press down, and the spot over the OD is the keyboard, there is only a small 1.5" area where the wristpad is.

I believe that is where the BT module goes, perhaps that has something to do with it...

I would deny it. You've got to push down pretty hard in order to make it creak. Same thing with the screen, if I really want it to crack, I'll have to push pretty hard on that too. :p

I'd have to agree... I wonder if the couple people who said that either have a screw loose (in the notebook, not the head), because that could do it..... but also maybe if they were using it with just the travelers drawer.... then there's really nothing in there that really supports the palmrest...... or one guy had it and anyone else would agreed with him simple started to believe it because as I recall the thread was "z70's have creeky palmrests" ..... you can convince yourself of anything if someone else tells you it's true.

... In terms of it being the BT module, since that's really all that changed since the last model (and really all the way back to the M6's which now makes this exact chassis 2 years old). However, that BT module can fit on a penny..... it's not the problem. This has been the most popular and most reviewed model in the last two years and I think two end users mentioned this and I'm not even sure they continue to post..... take that for what it's worth, but reviews wouldn't say how sold this chassis is if it were creeky... that's sort of a reason to say it's not solid.

Mine actually has this. I didn't know other people were actually experiencing this problem as well. I just checked all the screws and they are fine - I think it just has to do with the way the peices of the case fit together. I find it pretty annoying but on mine it doesn't happen during normal typing, only if you press along the front edge of the notebook. I guess if you have really gigantic hands it would be an issue if your hands rest along this edge. If you put weight on the edge when using the touchpad it also might creak.

Mine doesn't make any audible sound, but there is a small amount of "give" just to the left of the spot where the right latch enters the chassis (on the front edge). I only notice it when I'm using the touchpad (the blade of my hand rests there), and it doesn't really bother me except that I worry some separation might eventually develop there between the palmrest and the front silver trim piece. Valid concern?

The creaking comes from the the rubbing/grinding of 2 surfaces. Some will have it most will not. I found if you spray it down with wd40 or any other lubricant it makes the creaking stop. Why would someone do this to alleviate creaking i dont know. Obviosly you stand a chance of frying it if you spray something on the seams. Leave it alone. Some will creek but you still have to press down on a particular spot. I think maybee after some time the creaking actually goes away. This is particular to one small spon on the palmrest generally when you look for it and press down in that exact spot.....

The creaking does exist. My unit has the same thing on the lid of the panel where the latch is, is kinda loose? As in the two pieces of plastic "give" quiet a bit, and the palm rest creaks on the right side, this area is also loose where the two pieces come together. This is purely a construction thing, so I'm sure your reseller can do something about it, as mine said they will. :D

Also, it is not a particular spot on my unit. Just resting my hands normally to type makes it creak, but doesn't creak after I leave my palm on the rest to type. After I've moved my laptop to relocate or just lift the front it creaks. May have to do with the battery not fitting properly I'm guessing, since that's the spot where it lifts a bit. Mine sounds like I'm pressing the touchpad buttons.

This isn't a "problem" by any means on the Z70Va model so don't let this deter you from buying as this problem can happen to ANY laptop computer or any home appliance or electronic device. :D

    Mike
