i bought a laptop 2 months ago.
i removed the hdd of it and used a different one.
while i used the removed hdd for something else.
since last week my hdd got defective, i can't replace it with the original one because i'm using it for something else.
i don't have a spare i can use and i don't have a backup of my windows
so my question is, will i be able to use the warranty to get a new hdd from them?
i heard that the warranty isn't voided if you make some upgrades like replacing ram or hdd.
but i just wanted to make sure if its true.

If I read this right the factory installed hard drive was removed by you and is being used in something else. Also that is not the hard drive that has gone bad, the one that went bad is the one you installed yourself. If that is correct, then no they will not replace the hard drive under warranty as that hard drive is working fine.

Yes you will need to buy a new HDD as the one that was provided by Asus is still working correctly. They do not cover parts upgraded by the user like your SSD which you installed and has gone bad.
Depending on which computer you have the key may be embedded into the BIOS (Windows 8/8.1) so all you need to do is reinstall Windows onto the new drive you put in there. You can learn how to create a Windows install disc here Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help. -
