Recently purchased the V1jp and love it except it sometimes just freezes and locks up...loose the cursur and nothing works, not even ctrl+alt+del. Happens without a pattern that I can see.

What do you think this could be about? Software, hardware, processor overheating? Any help/thoughts appreciated.

Bought from ProPortable with upgrades to 100GB 7200 drive and 2GB ram

    Thanks in advance !!

Does it fully lock up to a point where you have to hold down the power button?

Perhaps a reinstall of the OS may help.

do you have an anti-virus software running in the background?

also, if you want to test your hardware, check out memtest86 for ram and get your hd manufacturer's hd testing utility.

    Well, you had two major components changed - HDD changed from 120GB 5400rpm to a 100GB 7200rpm (Seagate, I presume?). I have a V1Jp but I only added 1 GB DDR667 Kingston DDR2 RAM.

    - First, check the System section of the Event Viewer. See if there are any HDD problems. Red X with disk next to it = very bad. The faster the disk spins, the more fragile it will be.

    - Next, do what BestBuy/Futureshop/CircuitCity, etc do. Use your system restore disks. :) That will eliminate software and configuration issues/conflicts.

    - Failing that, next, download a copy of memtest86+ ON ANOTHER MACHINE AND BURN TO CD. Boot from CD on the V1 and perform a full memory test. See if there are any RAM errors. Make sure you let it run at least 5 full times.

    - If there are no errors after that, I would look to returning it for a replacement.

If you are still less than 30 days, most resellers should be able to take it back and give you a replacement. This actually might be 15 days depending on the reseller.

Thanks! Problem solved. Ran memtest86+ and the Corsair 1GB add-on stick was bad. Asus base 1GB was fine. Corsair replaced and no problems now.

By the way, the V1JP is an awesome machine...only complaint is that the speakers aren't any where loud enough. SPDIF out volume for headphones is low too for when I'm on an airplane. Awesome screen!
