    Hello All,
I recently purchased a denoted "manufactured refurbished" T101MT touchscreen netbook off Ebay (don't scoff, full refund issued) but none of the Asus software was present and most of Windows 7 was lost. It should have had the Asus platform but it was't present. None of the Express Gate features worked and Boot Booster wasn't in the BIOS. Nor did the f9 "Restore Factory Settings" work, etc, etc.
Anyhow, I sent it back and then purchased a "used" unit at a very good price. It has all the loaded programs, so I assume, but again there is no f9 restoration feature, as I'd like to perform. Apparently folks wiped the HDD which included the hidden "recovery" partition?

    1) Is there any way of recovering the Asus software or fixing the f9 feature?

    2) I can purchase the Restoration cd from Asus for $50.00 but wanted to know if there is any way of recovering the software or f9 restore feature?

    3) Is such even necessary, as the previous owner purchased a Windows 7 Home Premium cd upgrade? He re-installed Windows Starter but has included the upgrade to me with the key. Otherwise I could just upgrade to Windows 8.

So installing Windows should be no issue but what about all the Asus software???

    Thanks, Ralph

If the recovery partition has been erased, then unfortunately the only way to have a recovery is to purchase recovery discs, courtesy of Asus.

There is no way to recover the recovery partition, unfortunately - and I think even with it, you need to create a recovery drive. I have seen a lot of systems come in because end-users couldn't access the recovery via F9. We found out that it's not meant to work that way. With the recovery partition, you can create a recovery drive (16GB or more flash drive I think) and then use that from there on out to access recovery options via F9.

The problem with a recovery is that it puts the system back to a factory image - which means you get all that bloatware that came with the unit. Most techies prefer a clean install. But a lot of end-users feel more comfortable doing a recovery than a fresh Windows format + reload.
