im thiinking of ordering a Asus F8Sv but im not sure about Asus' quality, ive owned a IBM before and it was pretty good. So if you take into account of the build quality (such as touchness, nicely shut lid, paint stripping etc), battery life, warranty and overall enjoyment, are the Asus laptops a good choice, since im in Asus territory here, im sure to get some biased answers, but please try to be non-biased :p
    thanks.

This has been talked about again and again here at NBR. See links below.
All in all, and I believe 90% of people would agree, Asus notebooks have above average to superior quality. Of course, this varies with different models too. Warranties also vary between countries. North America seems to have one of the best warranty services provided in the computer industry, while UK has mediocre warranty/repair services. Battery life is what really falls short with Asus (but not terrible).

I will repeat that F is near the bottom of the ASUS quality line, but that makes it rather average ((much?) better than a budget Acer, for instance).

And oh, I would say ASUS battery life is pretty darn close to "terrible".

No, its a consumer "student" laptop... Why would it be near the top like the Business Classes?

The "top" is supposedly V and W series, but many people have doubts about the quality of the latest V releases (V1S, V2S).

To put things into perspective, many are also quite happy with the quality of the latest V releases :)

I recently did a search on Newegg for all notebooks with a 4 or 5 star rating, and of the several different brands they sell, there were a higher percentage of Asus notebooks that got a 4 or 5 star rating than any other brand. I think it's reasonable to conclude from my search that on average, there is a higher percentage of highly satisfied Asus customers than highly satisfied customers of the other notebook brands sold by Newegg (HP, Sony, Toshiba, Acer, etc). And while this doesn't speak directly to quality, owner satisfaction is derived from how well quality compares with expectation.

I have a V1JP and have recently looked at many notebooks in shops, at friends and collegues. I mainly was interested in build quality. And apart from Lenovo T series and some newer Dell Latitude notebooks pretty much everything seems to be worse than the V1JP.

Please note that V1JP should be the business modell of ASUS. Also, not all the shops arund here in Finland carry the more advanced modells --> more expensive.

I really came to appreciate the build quality of the V1JP.

On the other side, I have to agree with E.B.E: battery life is pretty much terrible. The battery of the V1JP is even worse, because of the wear problem. I pretty much think that my next notebook will not be an ASUS, given this problem, and how ASUS handles it (or rather, how they DO NOT handle it at all). But this is my third ASUS notebook and I have been very satisfied except for this issue.

Same here (just my 2nd ASUS laptop but I recommended/bought 3(!!!) others for friends). It's not brand loyalty, it's a combination of the machine fitting the requirements, and me having more experience with ASUS => knowing what best to choose given the requirements from the ASUS lineup rather than other brands.

However, for myself, I also have doubts that my next laptop will be ASUS. First because of the abysmal battery life that they have recently, and second because of the way they don't do anything to handle the multitude of firmware problems (battery, BIOS) that pop up with all the recent models: G1S, V1S, C90.
