    Forum Members,

I'm new here so be kind. I have a customer of mine that recently purchased a refurb'd Asus Q501L laptop with Win 8.1 installed. We can't get the WebCam in the screen to work and it isn't being recognized in the Device Manager. Any ideas on what is going on here or how I can get Windows to recognize the camera?

    Thanks,
    Dave

It is common for MSI notebooks to have it turned off by default. This may be the case with your customer's Asus. Take a look at the F keys and see if there is one with a webcam on it then press that and Fn at the same time. Windows should automatically install the drivers for the webcam so those should not be the issue.

Like Hutsady alluded to: when the camera is disabled per the hotkeys on the keyboard, it won't be recognized by the system. Look for the keys that toggle it on and off, try that, and see if it pops up in Device Manager from there (under "Imaging Devices"). If yes, test it out!
