I have an Asus k53s with core i3 2310M nvidia gt520m. I have this weird problem from the start, before I used the factory installed OS from Asus and sometimes the touchpad and keyboard suddenly freezes while my usb mouse is working perfectly fine and all the applications are running fine as well. Also the combo FN + F1, F2, F3, etc. keys are also working, so I can change the brightness and volume.

So I thought I should reinstall the OS and I've used the factory recovery partition, but the problem still occurs. It's really random like it would happen after five days or three days and it's very hard to reproduce. It's not like it happens when I start a certain program or when a lot of programs are open, it's different everytime.

Then I thought the factory OS might be faulty so I installed my own Windows 7 and try to install the minimum drivers. And right now I don't have the touchpad driver installed (Elantech) for multigestures. I thought the touchpad driver might conflicting something. And then after five days using the clean Windows OS the keyboard and touchpad froze while playing a game. So right now I'm clueless since I only installed the necessary drivers for the system..

Does anyone might know what the causes this problem??
    Thank you.

    So far what I've tried:
    Factory OS
    New Factory OS
New Windows 7 clean installation without touchpad drivers
14/7/2011 - now installed elantech driver on the clean windows 7 installation + asus hot keys to disable the touchpad. I hope it will not freeze again I will take five days for the test period. (I assume that USB external mouse might conflictsomething?)

I have seen issues like that with a hardware conflict such as a mouse (I had a similar issue with a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard) so I don't think it would be a faulty OS. Do you ever use it without the mouse attached? Have you tried a different mouse for an extended period of time?

On the drivers side, did you get the Touchpad driver and ATK driver from the ASUS site? I assumed so based on the message, but you want to make sure to use the drivers ASUS provides as opposed to downloading from the manufacturer of the hardware piece since it has been tested to work with that machine.

Thanks for replying. I have already replaced the laptop with another Asus model since I had a hard time to figure out what the problem exact was. The sales man also told that there were some other buyers also complained about the keyboard and touch pad freeze.

I've used three different mouses, logitech wireless, microsoft wirless, and a wired mouse. I've experienced the same problems with the mouses i've tested. Yes I got the drivers from the asus site.

I checked the internet to found out if there were owners with a similar problem with this laptop, unfortunatedly i couldn't find anything but I've found a lot of similar problems with other laptops of asus like eee 1005p (something like that). They owners described the exact same problem. Unfortunatedly no one had a concrete solution for it. It's really a strange problem since it's hard to reproduce it.

So far I've found the following suggestions:
    - touchpad conflict
    - intel storage conflict driver
    - windows 7 bug?
    - heat problems that effects the soldering contacts? (might explain the irregularity of the problem)

Anyways I don't have the laptop anymore and my new laptop works perfect. :)
