    Hello everyone,
I have a quetion regarding my Asus laptop's processor for possible upgrades. I have been looking around for processors recently (to upgrade from the default p8400) into something better. Recently I had my eyes on the t9900 model, as I was told that it was compatible with my laptop without any further upgrades. However, I cannot seem to find anyone selling t990s outside of ebay. Does anyone know a good processor (core 2 duo above 2.5ghz) that would be compatible with my laptop? I don't have much of a budget however I would like to be able to buy the mobile processor at a store in southern california, or at a trusted website that isnt ebay (no paypal account, dont really want to risk losing a lot of money for any reason), sadly Fry's does not have mobile processors  ... thanks guys.

I personally think the T9600 is the first step worthy of spending a dime on.

Retail on any of the intel CPU's is a bit expensive, sometimes you can find one on here new or used for a good price. I bought the T9600 for 260 lightly used from a friend on the site here, thats still currently a 340 dollar cpu and was more expensive a month ago.

T9900 is the best you can put in it but doesnt appear to really be much on the retail market for availability. T9800 is a slight step down but is about the same price still even the ES versions. Trying to find these local without buying them through a custom computershop is gonna be pretty hard.

You might PM GenTechPC and see if they still have that T9550 on hand and how much they want, but i already sent a few people that way they might not have it anymore. It was a pull from a G50VT-B1 (or maybe another model) that got upgraded so the cpu is practically new.

i was having problems finding intel extreme processors for laptops too.

actually the t9600 processor looks nice, especially since i easily found it just searching it in google and finding it being sold on amazon. perhaps i can convince my parents to let me use their credit card and take out >$300, and pay them back from a website (my dad is really skeptical about whether or not all the processors are compatible), are there any (other) good processors i can find from an actual store? thans for all the help

The T9600 is definitly compatible. The X9100 is the only officially compatible one but the X9000 is the previous Santa Rosa chipset but should work, one user claimed it did we know the X7800 from the same chipset works, barely but works.

    This is my list of what is supposed to work on the G50 - T6400, T6600, T9400, T9550, T9600, T9800, T9900, P7350, P7450, P8400, P8600, P8700, P8800, P9500, P9600, P9700, X9100

The T6400/T6600 pentiums are not confirmed but the only reason for them not to work is bios. P7350, P7450, P8400, P8600, T9400, T9550, and T9600 are obviousl garunteed to work the rest are supposed to as well. The list is from the G50 and G51 release papers and then a couple additionally from the chipset spec. Only ones for the chipset we know dont work are quads.

yeah i just looked at the asus g50vt page on the asus website, i assume all the g50vts use the same motherboard? i see alot of those processor models that you mentioned up there. now chaning the processor voids warrenty from the asus company but seeing as this is a bestbuy model, i also have bestbuy/geeksquad warrenty/insurance on it. will swapping out processors also void their warrenty/insurance (especially since ill probably be seeing geek squad to have them install for me if i get a new processor)?

You will have to talk to them, in warranty terms it does void the asus warranty, they are known to overlook it but are not required todo so. I have no clue about idiotsquad and their not liked here warranties.

Shouldnt affect insurance as insurance is a different sort of deal.

That and the storries about how horrid their warranty service and service in general is. Plenty across the web as well. You tend to run into people that wouldnt be able to get a job as teir one tech support. Different salesman at best buy and different techs with geek squad and different stores as well will give a different experience.

I give anyone the benifit of the doubt, i dont think someone should be called useless and say they know nothing just because they work for best buy. There are best buy employees among us and any one of us could fall into worse times and have to get a part or full time job there.
