i recently bought the asus G2S, for those not familular here are the specs

    2.2ghz centrino duo
    2 gig ram
    GeForce 8600M GT
    asus

Whenever i play counterstrike source the game will run alright for the first 10 minutes or so occasionally skipping a frame or 2. How ever after this the frame rate will really start slowing down to around 5 frames per second and below, the game eventually crashes.

For a notebook that was marketed as a gamers choice this has become a real pain.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Keep the performance monitor open as you play and look for what's changing as you play. If nothing changes, try reinstalling the game.

I also suspect overheating which leads to the GPU being throttled down. These new gaming notebooks are always on the brink of their thermal envelopes.

A cooling pad might help, but only a few degrees. Maybe they are all you need, or maybe not...

And definitely upgrade drivers, and also BIOS if you have a lower version than the latest.
