I have read on some sites that this is a discontinued product, however a couple of companys claim they have stock coming in of these at the end of this week.

    Core 2 Duo (T8300) 2.4GHz 3072MB (1 x 1024MB 1 x 2048MB) 250GB 15.4 inch WSXGA+ DVD Super Multi LAN WLAN BT Vista Home Premium (GeForce 9500M)
£578.22 ex VAT, £664.95 inc VAT

Are the specs and price is this any good?

I need it for some gaming (cod4-5, L4D) etc

And heavy photoshop work, some video editing also.

    please someone?!

The Asus G1SN was a good notebook in its day but keep in mind the G1SN is about 1-2 years old as it uses a lot of older technology. The CPU is the previous generation of Intel "Penryn" processors and the new generation are the montevina CPU's. View performance charts here for the CPU's. The 9500m is a mid/low end video card which won't provide you the best performance in games but may play the games you listed on low settings with the resolution of 1680x1050. You can also view performance charts for the video cards here

Whether this is a good buy really depends on your budget and what kind of performance you expect to receive.

This was my first Laptop and it is quite a reasonable price. I would only recommend this one if you are really on a tight budget.

I do really like it and it has quite good performance and is a solid build for its price but I do play a lot of older games alongside a few new ones.

As a real world example of performance I am playing Crysis on this at the moment at 1280 X 960 resolution, mostly low settings and a few medium and I get maximum 46fps, minimum 28 fps and a steady 30-35 fps.

If you can afford to, I would spend a bit more, possibly over £1000 to get one with a higher end GPU. If you can't afford to do so then I do recommend this Laptop.

ok, tthanks guys. Im thinking of saving for a g50v as they seem to have all the newer technology.

Their not going to get outdated that quick are they?

The Asus G50VT-A1/A2 should be around for quite a while still as they offer all the new technology. If you don't need a blu-ray drive you would be just fine with the Asus G50VT-A1 model notebook. This model also has a $100 mail in rebate offered until January 31st :)
