    Hi,
I want to upgrade the RAM in my G1S from 2GB to 4GB... does anyone know what brand of memory is used ?
I know it's DDR2 667 Dual Channel but I'm not sure exactly what brand.
    Thanks !

Not sure on the RAM but 4gb is quite useless unless you are using Vista64.

3gb should be more then enough.

Well I've only had it for less than 2 days... but so far so good.
This is my first laptop so I don't know how useful my review will be... but after I use it a bit more I'll post my experiences. :)

Good to know... I definitely want to upgrade though because the company I work for has "Computer Purchase Assistance" so they'll reimburse me 20% for the machine and periphals including any memory upgrades... as long as it's within 30 days of the purchase

After booting up, Vista and whatever take up about 700MB of memory right off the bat.

Saw one over the weekend, it's pretty much the same as the G1p, the keyboard was nice(I didn't notice flex in the original G1p though) as usual. Though I'd like ASUS to have some sort of coating on the keyboard keys so they last a bit longer, though this is a case for all notebook keyboards, just an opinion.

The screen is gorgeous as usual, seems to use the same screen as the G1p - though it's not confirmed since I couldn't get a G1p to compare the two. The 8600GT is as expected.

4gb of RAM is overkill for almost anything you can throw at it in the next 3-4 years. 3 should be more than enough and 2 can definitely suffice. What are you using that will take up that much RAM!?

video editing will eat 4 GB of RAM rather easily.

I can't see a good reason why you'd be doing serious video editing on a laptop... If you're looking to get a system optimized for real video editing, you're much better off with a desktop. Then again, I'm sure there's always some reason...

I do video editing on 12 hr. nonstops. Helps pass the time when you're sick of looking at documents.

by adding more ram, vista will just take even more memory right off the bat.

people need to get out of the idea that having lots of free ram = good with vista.

for XP, having a wad of memory helped because it meant when you loaded up a big program it didnt need to go all slo-mo with the swap file.

with vista, the more memory you give it the more it will use because it caches all your frequently used programs so that they load up quicker. thats how it works.

burnz did your screen come with any dead pixel?
    where did you buy it?
does it get hot after using it for a long time? (what where you doing and in how much time)
If you can make a review of the g1s there are plenty of people waiting for one, I`m one of them

Well 50% of my RAM is used up by Vista and whatever other processes are running at startup... and I figure that future DX10 games might require much RAM... but I don't know for sure

This is my first laptop so I don't have anything to compare it to...

I've only had the machine for 2 days... and haven't had a chance to use it that much because of Memorial Day weekend cookouts and stuff... but as soon as I have some more time with I'll post my review.

I didn't have any dead pixels... at least that I've noticed so far... and it doesn't seem to run hot at all... it's also very quiet
