    Guys,

Hang tight because this might be a challenging one. I'm having trouble with my new Asus G1S. This is the story:

I ordered a G1S to take with me on an internship in Philadelphia. So before flying there, I hooked up my desktop's hard drives to the G1S and started loading it with data. During that process, I was hit with a solid blue screen after accessing a particular directory within the desktop's hard drive. I was skeptical but didn't think much of it, and decided to omit the data within that directory (which repeatedly blue screened the G1S).

But that wasn't the end of the blue screen. The more I use the G1S, the more cases I find that cause a blue screen. It tends to occur a lot when using MS Word to open certain .doc files that were created on other machines. However, if I open those same .doc files with notepad / wordpad, the computer doesn't blue screen. Another time, it happened when reading a particular .iso image file I made on another pc. I haven't been able to find the exact pattern that causes the blue screen... the only observation is that it appears to happen when reading certain files/directories generated by other computers.

Note that the problem doesn't happen in safe mode. But even if I let Vista boot up regularly (with all startup services and programs disabled), the problem still happens.

I called Asus, and they had me restore the system by reinstalling Vista. I did, and the problem still happened. I called again after that, and they suggested I send the G1S to them.

Fortunately, over the summer I'll be using the G1S for activities that don't make it blue screen. I'm willing to send it to Asus after the summer ends, since then I'll have access to a desktop while the G1S is shipped away. However, if I can avoid sending it, I will. That's why I'm posting this.

    These are the problem specifics:

The last two files are nowhere to be found on the hard drive, and the .dmp one is gibberish. The check for solution button didn't yield any solutions.

This is a really ridiculous problem, but I'd rather not dwell on how Asus or Microsoft screwed up... and look for a solution instead.

    Thanks for reading,

you might want to check out your various components.....use memtest to check ram and your hd manufacturer's diagnostic tool.

    Hello,

I have the same problem with my new G1S. Here's the error from the blue screen:

when I analyse the dump file, I get this :

NETw4v32 are wifi card drivers, I updated them from 11.1.0.86 to 11.1.1.11, and I have always blue screen.

    Thank you.

I've been having the same problem...in the first few weeks after purchasing it I would get blue screens all the time until i got one that completely froze my computer up and after that I could not load windows anymore. Was forced to reformat. Ever since its been running ok but I still get these blue screens and random restarts, real pain, and often my touchpad or other devices will randomly fail.

    Here are some ideas:
    1. Bad RAM. This is the most often case of random bluescreens. Use MemTest896+ to check the RAM.
    2. Bad motherboard (I say this because devices fail -- but it might also be that drivers fail due to bad RAM). First test the RAM, if it's a bad motherboard there's little else to do than send it to ASUS.

I had the exact same problem with mine, it gradually got worse and worse. Certain .doc files wouldn't open, I couldn't install anything through windows installer, and eventually Vista just wouldn't boot. I had to reformat.
