    Hi all,

I am going to purchase the Asus F8Sv, which comes with the IntelĀ® PRO/Wireless 4965 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless network card. However, I would like to know from your experience if this card giving you issues just like the Intel 2200BG wireless card.

As you can see from this forum and the Internet, there has been an issue with the Intel 2200BG whereby if you disconnect your laptop from the power supply, this Intel WiFi card automatically goes to "power-saving" mode and cause multiple disconnection to the router. Intel seems to be aware of this problem as stated on their website, but they're blaming it on the router, which I don't think is true. Why? Because I have 4 laptops at home, 2 with the Intel 2200BG and the other 2 with Dell WiFi connecting to a Linksys WRT54GS router (with DD-RT firmware) and ONLY the notebooks with hte Intel 2200BG give me erratic disconnection when the notebooks are unplugged from the power supply.

Hence, before I purchase the Asus F8Sv, I would like to know your input on the above.

    Thank you.

Hmm, my current notebook has the 4965 card, and my previous one had the 2200, never had a problem with either card on the Linksys 802.11G router in two years. Though, I recently switched to a MIMO Netgear router.

I tested my 2 Sony laptop with 2200BG and they give the same error. It's probably the Linksys router, but since my Dell laptops, HP laptop, and even HTC TyTn and HTC Mogul not giving problem, I kinda concluded it's the 2200BG. I have updated it to latest driver usign Intel PROSet software too.

Anyho, if anyone can confirm the 4965 work OK with Linksys WRT54GS, I am ordering the laptop. :)

My 4965 does EXACTLY what you are describing and I have a WRT54GS as well. I've already tried changing the power settings and few other things but NOTHING seems to work!

It's so annoying because I can't unplug my laptop without losing my internet connection. I've tried a few different drivers as well.

Uh oh... that's not good. Dang, I don't want change my router to another brand just to make the 4965 works.

Guys, I decided to go with the Dell XPS M1530 because it has the Dell WLAN card which is LESS troublesome. I had really bad experience with the 2200BG and I think the other Intel card is also problematic. What I found out is that Intel WLAN is very picky on which router it connects to.

FYI, the 2200BG problem exist since 2005 and even now Intel hasn't fixed it:

Again, very weird. I had a 2200 card, along with that Linksys router, and never had a problem....
