Looking at this laptop. Couldn't find any reviews of this actual laptop. Just wanted to make sure it doesn't have any glaring flaws (like the 8600GS being gimped with DDR2 and under-clocked on some of the other Asus laptops).

Is the HD2600 on this laptop pretty good? Any flaws that stand out?

To me on paper it looks like a excellent laptop with the only thing I am not liking is the low screen res of 1280x800. But I can live with that.

One thing I couldn't find is the battery life on it. How long does it last? Not a real important thing to me since most of the time I will be plugged in.

If I got the 9 cell battery does it stick out from the case?

My son's A8js has a 1280 x 800 rez, but it's a 14 inch notebook. I can't really tell much of a difference (he's a gamer). The HD2600 I've heard is somewhere between an 8600gs and 8600gt, or maybe it's 8600 ddr 2.5. IOW, it's decent for gaming purposes. That really is a lot of notebook for the money. Stick another gig of ram in there and you're good to go. It's probably got 2 512 sticks...wish they wouldn't do that :D

Was looking on Asus' website. They don't have ATI drivers for it. Say M-76 drivers or something odd for video drivers.

M76 is the ATI's R600 core for both HD2400 and HD2600, C90S also has the M76 driver on the download page.

Ah, weird name for ATI drivers. Thought that Matrox was getting back into the 3d business with laptop cards. :0

It is 512MB DDR2 VRAM w/ DirectX 10 support, it's still a very solid machine for the price. Thanks!

Also how noisy is the fan compared to the sony vaio fz serie (with geforce 8400 gt)

Nah man, 6 cell will do for me... I dont really have a problem with plugging it in. On gentech, you can get an additional 6 cell for like $100..not bad I guess :\
