Hey guys, please let me keep my thread in this section, i couldn't find anybody else to help me in the other asus forums
I have an issue with upgrading the BIOS on my 1015PED. So here is what i did:
Downloaded BIOS 801 on Asus driver page, put it on a freshly formated 8GB USB drive (formated in FAT32) then i shutdown the EEE and when i start it, i hit ALT+F2 to enter EZFlash Utility. Then the utility scans and detects my USB drive but doesnt find the Bios file, the message is "Can't locate 1015PE.ROM on USB Drive" So at that point, the the utility keeps scanning the USB and giving me the same message. After 20 minutes, i press the power button for 5 secs until laptop shuts down and i restrat it. When i check the files name of the bios file it is "1015PE-ASUS-0801.ROM'' So i renamed the file to "1015PE.ROM". Then i restarted the flash process, and then it finds the file and tell me "Reading file 1015PE.ROM" After about 20 minutes, it didnt give me any additional message, i realize that something went wrong. I press the power button again for 5 secs and reboot the laptop. Fortunetely for me, i haven't bricked my laptop.
But now i have no idea what else to do....anybody here has some knowledgewith EEE's? and their bios update process?

EZFlash bricks every bios and motherboard. better use the good old dos mode.

He DID NOT bricked his laptop :)
Yes you could try using the old dos mode or the windows flash utility (although the last one isn't as safe as the dos mode)

PAt when you extract the downloaded Bios file is the size 1024 KB? IF it is way less than that size you just need to extract or unzip the compessed file.
The procedure you followed sounds correct and, I have done it the same way 3 times on my G73 w/o issue.

    Rückenmark did you mean winflash?

From everything I've ever seen posted, the BIOS EZFlash utility is the safest, and it certainly doesn't brick "every bios and motherboard". Perhaps Rückenmark mixed up WinFlash and EZFlash (although WinFlash works most of the time as well).

Don't worry buddy, i didnt take it as a diss, far from that. I usually post questions after i try to look for solutions on the net, i'm actually pretty good with PC's. In any case, i'm really confused as what to do wit this bio update issue, the laptop runs well but ive read that new bios fixes some battery problems. This laptop is advertised to run for 13 hours and i really wanna upgrade the bios to tweak the system to optimal usage. Anyways i'll try flashing again tonight and see

There is bootblock recovery on most Eee PCs, and I think this is standard for all new models. It is therefore nearly impossible to brick. As you have found, you just need to rename the BIOS ROM image to the specified filename, 1015PE.ROM. If it never gets to the 'programming' stage, you may have a corrupted file or bad USB stick.

In my experience with the 1015PEM, it can take up to 20 minutes on the programming stage, I have done two BIOS updates and both took an excessive amount of time.

OK, so this is where i'm at. I've tried again to flash the BIOS again with the same problem. It keeps on getting stuck at:
So i've researched and came to this conclusion; the USB drive has to be formatted in FAT16 and not 32. Because windows doesn't offer the possibility in the format utility, you have to use commande prompt to do it by entering the following "FORMAT H: /FS:FAT" in my case H: is the path to my USB drive but you have to check yours and replace the H: by you letter path.
At the end i got a message that told me that my USB drive is too big to be in FAT16. So i took and old 256MB USB stick and formated it using CMD method mentionned above. Now i tried flashing again and it got passed the "Reading 1015PE.ROM" message. Now it says "Start Programming..." and it seems like its doing something. After about 10 minutes, the process successfully completed. After i reboot, i pressed F2 to load default settings and i was back in windows in less then 15 seconds.
I'm so happy! Thank you Mr. Groceries for telling me the programming process will take some time and stopping from not pressing power during flash process and maybe bricking it.
